We recently sent our printer back to HP because we had an error message to have it serviced. Now, it says "Wrong Cartridges - Use the introductory cartriges that were shipped with your printer." These ARE the cartridges that were shipped....

The printer kept turning off so we took it back and got a new one - but kept hold of the old cartridges which were still full of ink having been replaced. Turned the printer on and it says "Use the introductory cartridges that were shipped with you printer". Have turned the printer off, removed all the cartridges, and then turned it back on as suggested but this has not worked. Any ideas?

I have the same problem and tried this that I read somewhere else on this site and it worked.

    1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

    2. Press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

My dell 924 printer shows right cartridge incorrect and I just had both cartridges refilled what is wrong?

I purchased remanufactured ink cartridges through I got 4 for the price of 1 through Dell. After installing the first cartridge, it printed for a few days and then I got the same message "left cartridge incorrect". Unfortunately, I did not read the piece of paper that came with my cartridge that says "STOP" read this before you install the cartridge.
I had to throw out the cartridge that I had just installed and put in a new one and follow these steps:
1. If you recieve a pop-up message indicating that the cartridge has been depleted or a low ink level warning, please disregard.
2. Check "Don't display this dialog again" and click "ok" or "continue printing" if necessary.
3. In the printer status window, since you have already ordered ink, do not click the "order ink online" button. If you have the option, check "I have ordered my ink, please don't remind me again." If not, close the window and continue printing.

I'm not sure why, but these instructions were vital to getting my remanufactured cartridges to work.

I am posting this reply to hopefully help out the next person that has this problem. Unfortunately, I lost a perfectly good ink cartridge because I failed to read the instructions the first time. But the next one worked just fine when I followed the instructions. Good luck!

The yellow cartridge is not delivering ink; i have tried replacing the cartridge with another, but this does not work.

It sounds like you are using an aftermarket or refilled cartridge. To clear the sensor and nozzle, install a new OEM cartridge, run deep cleaning a number of times (at least 3 times), and then the alignment utility.
Aftermarket/refilled cartridges do not always meet the manufacturer's specifications for quality. Try cartridges from for your printer. I've never had a problem with their aftermarket cartridges.
Please rate this solution. Thanks.

Hello there:
what this is refering to is that the cartridge is either not the right one for the printer or the device is having a problem with that cartridge i would remove the cartridge and verify that it is the right one that goes in their and also since youare having the cartridge out i would clean out the contact area to get rid of the old ink that may be sitting on the contact areas ok
best regards Michael

Right cartridge incorrect" and "Left cartridge incorrect

Many newer HP Printers internally keep track of your cartridges by a serial number embedded into the cartridge. When it's low, the printer remembers. This is entirely done within the printer itself, and not the printer software. Some printers EXPIRE the cartridges after 18 months according to the installation date even it is not empty.

Outrageous, but true.

A fix? Most HP printers will only keep 2 cartridges in memory, so if you have 2 extra cartridges, (even empty ones) you could cycle them through to reset the printers memory, and reset the ink level to full. Basically, even though you've refilled your cartridge, the printers has the cartridge's serial number stored in memory. This will reset it.

Right cartridge incorrect

If it says to check the right cartridge (Black), replace it with a brand new one or one you know is good.

Walgreens will test and refill your cartridge for ~$10.00 (black).

I have heard of new OEM HP cartridges being bad.

The printer checks the cartridge level sensor and the electrical stuff.

Dell AIO 962 printer faulty

The error you are referring to could be related to either the cartridge or the printer, so please perform the steps below to check if the issue lies in the printer or the cartridge.
Power on the printer and open the top cove, the cartridges will align in the middle of the printer, remove both the cartridges form their slots and interchange them, yes put the Black cartridge in the Blue slot and the Color cartridge in the Black slot, then close the top cover of the printer and power off the printer and restart it, at this point of time check if the error message is changed or not if the error message is not changed and till showing the same as “Right cartridge is incorrect” then you can try to update the printer firmware form the Dell support site, here is how you can do it.
  1. Go to
  2. Click on Drivers & Downloads.
  3. Under Option 2: Select a Product as printers.
  4. Locate the printer(s) 962 printer and click Go.
  5. Select an Operating System that is installed in your computer then choose downloads and look for Firmware.
  6. Download and install the firmware, then restart the computer and the printer, however please make sure that you do not restart your computer and the printer when the download and the installation is in progress.
If the issue is still not fixed after you upgraded the firmware then I believe that you will have to replace it. However if the error message changes to Left cartridge incorrect after you have interchanged the cartridges earlier then try these steps below.
  1. Remove the color cartridge and clean the metal contacts of the cartridge with a dry cloth thoroughly please make sure that you are using a soft dry cloth to clean the metal contacts of the cartridge.
  2. Make sure that the cartridge holder snap which sits on the top of the cartridge is fixed firmly.
  3. Make sure that you are using a Dell branded cartridge and it is not a refilled one cause Dell printers often give error message when you use a refilled cartridge or a cartridge of some other brand.
  4. If the issue is still not resolved replace the color cartridge.
