This is a sign of a faulty drain pump impeller. the drive shaft that is connected to the impeller is stripping the impeller. you will eventually need to replace the entire pump soon.

Fisher Paykel IWL16, noisy when draining.
Tilt machine toward back and support machine to keep it from falling forward or backward. Remove water pump wiring harness, drain lines and remove water pump by depressing "thumb lever" on water pump bracket and rotating pump to release. After removal check orifice that water pump impeller was removed from for debris. If debris is too large to go through pump, it will lodge in impeller orifice ring and strike the spinning impeller causing grinding or whining noise while draining.
