CD/DVD burner stopped working

My laptop CD/DVD in built burner stopped working when I needed it most. The following message ' Windows Media player cannot copy files because CD recorder or burner cannot be detected' flagged up on the screen. It has always worked graciously in the past, efficiently and excellently until this sad day. Please help, how do I reset the device Dell D630 latitude.
Thanks

I had the same problem on my Sony Vaio and I found a free program called "CD Tray Pal" You just click on the desktop icon and it loads and windows recognizes your drive. Amazing, after a while, it fixed itself and I did not have to use it anymore! Hope this helps. http://www.e-systems.ro/ You should be able to find it on this site.

I want to install it in my coputer but dont I dont have a disk, what can I do?

There is no need to install any software before/after connecting the LiteOn device,
because Windows XP/Vista/7 already contain the necessary device-drivers.

So, just connect it, and restart Windows, and it will be ready-to-use.

Windows Media Player can be used to play DVD-movies,
and Windows has built-in software to write onto CD-recordable disks.

I have a hp laptop that i dj with ..every time i open windows media player to burn a disc it says connect a burner and restart ....HELP!!!

The solution to your problem depends on a couple of things:

1. Which operating system are you using (for example, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista)?

2. Have you connected an external devise (such as an external CD/DVD burner) to the laptop in question previously? If so did it work successfully?

3. Does the laptop have a built in burner, and if so have you ever used it successfully?

Please repost with you original question plus answers to the above the questions and hopefully someone will be able to help you soluve the problem.

Good luck!

My NEC doesn't read DVD's, DVD-RW and CD read good. Please help! Firmware 1.07 Windows XP

I assume that you are talking about movie DVD's; you need a 3rd party program that can play DVD's, or you need to install the proper codec's to play DVD's; because of fear of "monopoly" lawsuits, Windows Media Player in XP does not natively support DVD playback. You can either look for and install the necessary codec's, or you can download and install VLC player (among others) that have the necessary functionality built in. Try this link:

http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html

It is from download.com, and is tested to be malware free. Load the DVD in your drive, open "My Computer", right click the DVD drive, choose "Open With" and select VLC player.

I bought iTunes card, bought the songs i wanted, but it wont work

Your CD Drive may be just a CD/DVD reader Drive may not be able to burn onto CD/DVD,s my dads laptop cant, he gets same error when he trys, so he had to use a different cd/dvd burner on a desktop.

If you have a desktop or laptop and you are 100% sure it can burn to CD/DVD,s then i reccomend you get a program called "ULTRA ISO" it is shareware but allows burning up to 300mb per cd for free before it asks you to pay so as long as you keep cd files below a total of 300mb you,d never have to pay. if its actually ITUNES which is reporting the error then your CD/DVD drive may require its own software before itunes will reconise it as CD/DVD burner drive. windows media player can report this type of error also.

Dvd decoder

YOu need a 3rd pary dvd player software installed, Like power dvd. Power DVD , Win Dvd etx, you should have gotten a copy of a player when you brought your computer, If you didnt or cant find it you can download one, many have trial versions or you can get a free one.

If you get a trial version of Power Dvd it automatically installs a dvd decoder. even if power dvd trial expiers and you cant use it anymore you will still be able to play the dvd's on windows media player cause the decoder will remain there and media player will have axcess to it :)

If it's mpeg2 decoder thats needed, as far as i know you have to purchase this, unless you have a retail copy of 'Nero6' or similair which has it built in. But also make sure you have the latest version of Media Player10.
