I have a computer where a virus is blocking ALL .exe files. I cannot boot into safe mode. The keyboard is locked to only boot normal. I cannot wipe and reload the computer because the virus blocks setup.exe. I cannot get to the windows command line and run from DOS because that is blocked also. Any ideas other than lighting this computer on fire?

  • smalltown88 Jun 06, 2009

Thanks. I was thinking that was going to have to be the next step. It's a desktop computer.

I have never seen a virus like this in all my life. Usually I can somehow get around these things to download some sort of fix. Not with this thing.

    Thanks for the post.

  • smalltown88 Jun 06, 2009

I have tried all of the above. The only thing this computer will let open is internet explorer. Once I go to a site and try to download something to scan to get rid of this thing, it stops the .exe file from loading.

I am able to go into the setup and I have the CD drive as the first boot. It opens the CD, but when I try to do the Windows setup, the virus stops it. It will not allow the option to load Windows from the CD. Even though the CD is the first boot, the computer boots normal. I went so far as to go into the bios and disable the hard drive from the boot list (unchecked it) and it still booted to the hard drive once it disabled the CD.

I can't open task manager and when I try to use the run command to get into DOS, that is stopped as well.

This is the craziest thing I have ever seen. I have seen some wicked things on a computer, but never anything this bad.

This is a friend's computer, not mine, and his son is the one who thought he was doing something good by downloading the "fix" that was going to clean up their machine from viruses.

He first wanted to try and save things on there but even now that he wants it wiped and reloaded, I can't do it.

This virus can totally bypass booting from the recovery CD and boot the hard drive, no matter what I tell it to do.

I don't see how a virus could keep you from booting the windows cd if it's selected as the 1st boot device. At this point the harddrive has not been read yet. Something else is wrong.

Replace the hard drive. If you're lucky, you can get one for under $100. Laptop or Desktop? (Laptop drives are WAY more specific.)

I f you have a CD/DVD drive and bootable Cd you may be able to use this to get the Machine running. If its a Windows CD you could also use it to format the infected hard drive.

You would have to press one the function keys on boot up to enter the Cmos/Bios screens, in there you should be able to select the boot up devices and the order. Make the CD/DVD drive the fisrt one. exit and save . Put the cd in the CD/DVD drive then reboot. This will bypass the hard drive, and dependant on the CD you will may be able to format the C drive.

I need to restore my computer without disc, what should I write in command prompt?

To access the System Restore Gui from command prompt you will need to type in rstrui.exe
OR
%Windir%\System32\rstrui.exe

If you are experiencing Boot issues you will need to install a boot manager. If your system is missing a file or a file is broken, you may need to replace that file with a working version that's compatible with your OS Version.

Keyboard on laptop is locked

Keyboard is locked? No keys work or are you saying the Mouse and Touchpad is locked?

Try booting up in Safe Mode and see if it is still happening.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.Sometimes a virus hijacks the keyboard or mouse. If any of the above did not solve your problem then run a virus scan.

THE KEYBOARD DOESN WORK

Sounds like the battery in the keyboard is dead. Also make sure you have the wireless doggle that came with the keyboard and mouse plugged into the usb port. You might try plugging it into another port.

I'm thinking your keyboard is dead because of the battery or a virus has hijacked your keyboard.

Try booting up in Safe Mode to make sure it's not virus related. Turn the computer off, then turn it on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Select the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different because the icons are bigger and the screen is darker, this is normal. If your keyboard works in safe mode then you might have a virus that can't function in safe mode.

Userinit.exe application error

Hi again:

I would suggest that you may have a virus / spyware infection that has infected this windows file.

If you can boot into SAFE Mode ( reboot the computer) and when the screen goes to the black background with white writing start pushing F8 - keep doing so until you get a screen that gives you a list of things you can do -
ie:
restart windows normally
safe mode
safe mode w/networking

use the arrow keys on the keyboard and choose to boot into safe mode.- may take a couple of minutes

once there i would suggest running virus / antispyware scans as well as running a BOOT SCAN (a type of virus scan that scans the hard drive before it gets into windows)

NOTE on running virus/spyware scans - ALWAYS QUARANTINE the file infected - DO NOT DELETE - if you delete a critical windows system file you will cause windows to completely crash and in that instance you would have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything.

Wont start properly when it does it locks up

Restart the computer in safe mode (procedure below)

Start the computer and keep tapping the F8 Key on top of the keyboard
You will be in advanced options menu, use your up and down arrow keys on the keyboard and choose safe mode and hit enter.

In safe mode close if any window opens, and wait for a while to see if your computer locks up, if it does not lock up in safe mode, your computer hardware is fine. The problem is with windows. If the computer still locks up in safe mode, the issue could be with the computer hardware.

Every time, the windows is loading, i got that error message "error loading winiio32.rom the specific module could not be found"

Heya

winiio32.rom is a not a system component.Unfortunately its a trojan(virus) commonly know as Vundo which directly infects your registry of the computer. It also disables all the anti-viruses,firewalls and all the other security features in the computer. In worst case scenarios it also disables .exe files.

Now in order to fix this problem you can do some following steps-:
Turn the computer off
As soon as you turn the computer on start tapping the F8 key repeatedly.
Now select safe mode with networking with the arrow keys on the keyboard.
Now the computer will boot in safe mode and you might see a black background with icons appearing very big but don't freak out its normal in safe mode.
Now i would recommend you to download Malwarebytes-:

http://www.techspot.com/downloadget.php?id=4716&file=1&evp=0a59f9584bb65ce60f8292a3fc06e555

Now as soon as you download it install and update it and run a full scan.It will definitely pick a lot of infections.Click on remove infections and restart your computer.

90% of the times this will fix your problem but as i dont know how severe your problem is for example-the virus might have disabled .exe files or might have put restrictions in the computer which will not allow you to open any .exe files nor you can end the the process of the virus which is still running in the background as it will also disable task manager.

So do let me know if these steps fixes your problem. In case if it doesn't fixes your problem we will try the next steps.Don't worry we will definitely fix this problem.

Thanks & Regads

My computer will turn on go thru all the motions like it is working it says windowsxp then goes to welcome screen then goes to my screen it wont show any programs or the start

It seems the Explorer.exe is not running properly or isn't loading. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete (when it shows nothing on the screen) on the keyboard, the Task Manger will pop up, click "File" and select "New Task (Run)" and type in "explorer.exe" (without quotes), wait for few seconds, it should open up all the features properly, if this fails, go into Safe Mode and try again. To go into Safe Mode, restart the computer and keep tapping the F8 button on the keyboard until you see the Advanced Boot Options with Safe Mode as one of the options. Select Safe Mode using the arrow keys on the keyboard and press enter, you will see white texts in the black screen, wait until you see a warning to confirm whether you want to boot into Safe Mode or not, give a positive input and proceed forward, once windows is loaded, you better run a full system virus scan or I would also recommend System Restore.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Session 3 initialization failed

Ok, after countless hours searching and sleuthing for this issue, I could not find a resolution...until now. This is my first post ever on a technical forum, so be gentle to me. I will probably never reference this form, so you if this helped you, please let me know by sending me comments to my email at: [email protected]
Technical Symptoms: Blue Screen (BSOD) Session 3 Initialization Failed (Session3_Initialization_Failed) STOP 0x0000006F (0xc0000034) This BSOD would load for both normal and safe mode. The operating system in question was Windows XP Home SP2.
Reason: The issue occurred after I ran a virus scan using a PE boot disk that deleted the C:\windows\system32\smss.exe system file.
Resolution: By using the "dir smss*.* /s" at a DOS prompt from the PE boot disk, I was able to search the whole computer for any available files and it found a clean version in a directory. So to fix the issue I copied C:\windows\$ServicepackUninstall$\smss.exe to C:\windows\system32\ using a PE boot disk.
Acknowledgements: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153742 , this link gave me a hint that it may be smss.exe (even though it references win2000). Upon looking at the antivirus logs, sure enough the smss.exe was found to be infected and deleted it as it could not disinfect it. I'm assuming if I did not have a virus free smss.exe file on the C: drive in another folder, I may have to pull it from a CD or find it online.
