Hi Cerfer39, that is a very good suggestion, i have put a picture on, are you able to identify the model, and as far as serial numbers go is the only way to know is phyically look at it? when you say clean behind the controls are you talking IN the tv or to do with the remote? and if its in the tv would you mean at the back or somewhere on the front. i do not have access to the tv myself but would have to get a repair guy go in and follow my instructions. so as much info as you can provide is fantastic, thankyou for your helpful assistance.

Please identify the model of tv and do you have any photos/instructions of how to get inside the tv to get to the controls?

  • thelochness Oct 25, 2007

Hi Cerfer39, have confirmed the model number as SP61L2HX, the capacitor board needs to be replace, do you know where i can get a SERVICE manual for part changing instructions, not instruction manual, have one of those?

The remote sensor on the front board has also caused this problem to happen in this TV set. you will need to disconnect the remote sensor . If you have no TV or electronic repair experience, you really should not attempt this repair on your own unless you do not care about doing something to the TV set, but this is a nice tV set so why would you want to mess it up? Have you by the way taken the batteries out of the remote control?  I have had in the past, a bad remote to cause this type of issue. I doubt though if the capacitor in the power supply is causing this problem. It could be a regulator in the standby power supply. A service manual is available for a download here http://www.servicemanuals.net/results.aspx?type=SM&brand=0&model=HL-R6167W or you can go to Samsung parts at  and order the key board if you really think the key boardhttp://www.samsungparts.com/search/search.asp?searchflag=byonemodel&searchkey=HLR6167W&modelid=361105 is bad, or there are the other parts you need. Samsung only sells the complete board, so you will need to decide if the problem is the 45.00 board or the 600.00 board.  Good luck

Hi Lochness,

My best guess is some moisture has gotten around the controls and is shorting out the buttons making it change channels and Turn on and off by itself.

You need to get some contact cleaner and a can of Air spray.  Gain access to the circuit behind the controls, carefully of course, power turned off.  Clean the buttons, and the circuit board thoroughly.  This should put you in business. Please do not run keep the Television plugges in until you do this as further damage could occur.
I have had this happen to almost every television that I had.  Eventually enough dust and lint will collect, then somehow someway moisture gets into the dust, lint, and circuits.  Just grit your jaw muscle and dive in.

    Hi Lochness,

I apologize about delay in responding. I had to be in two meetings this afternoon.  I am talking about inside the television itself.  I believe the buttons are on the right side of your unit.  I would try removing batteries from the remote first, to be sure the remote has not lost its mind.   If its not the remote control doing the dirty deed, then you will need to unplug the television, and get some contact cleaner spray( Electronics Cleaner) and spray into the buttons from outside into the TV. Do not spray to much.  Then push the button several timess to work the cleaner into behind the button. If this doesnt work, Call the Repair guy.

If your Remote lost its mind.

Remove the battery and open the Remotes casing (shell).  Clean everything inside the remote well with the Electronics cleaner.  Put it all back together and try it out.

    Hi Lochness,

May day has been very loaded with having to repair Playstations.  I apologize for my lack of attendance to your requests.  I do not have any instructions on accessing the controls. I doubt if any exist. Is the Listing header for this problem is not correctly identifying your Television?  Is your Television made by Samsung? How do you know it is a Capacitor board, never heard of one of those. I will post again after your reply.

You need to change the picture-size by using the TV remote and or cable remote.
On the remote look for P-Size, Zoom, Sreen size or Ratio.

Samsung T.V. goes on for 30 seconds then no picture

If this is a flat panel LCD tv, this is a sure sign that the panel itself is bad. I have seen this before. Tv comes on works fine then within 5 minutes goes blank.

The captions are turned on in the cable box itself. If you have a Motorola cable box, turn it off then hit the menu button for the cable box. You will then see where you can turn off the closed captioning. Anymore questions email me tvtek@msn.com

TV Picture Freezes and Turns Off; Cannot Use Remote

My shop had this problem yesterday. We had to change the DMD to correct it. One of the data lines was being drawn down intermitently. This doesn't eliminate the digital PCB, but, we have seen the DMD do this more than a digital. You should have an authorized shop do the repair. Contact Samsung at 1-800-SAMSUNG or contact by email: http://samsung.com/ContactUs/ContactUs.htm Hope this helps.
