First you need to see if the scanner shows in the device manager , if it doesnt it is likely the CPU / Main board is faulty If you can see the scanner in the device manager it has connected and loaded its firmware in this case it could be many things but the image guides are the most common issue , check them for damage especially the white area on the underside
Check to make sure the "transportation lock" on the botom of the unit hasn't got knocked to the lock position. That would make the red light flash on that model.
This noise is caused by the transport lock. Power the scanner off. Lock and unlock the transport lock a few times and then leave it in the unlocked position again and power on.
The user manual states the flashing red light signals that your transportation lock is on. Look underneath the scanner and you'll see a switch for "lock" and "unlock." If the switch is turned to "lock" move it over to "unlock" and plug the usb cable back into your computer. It should work with no flashing red light. If not try restarting your computer and plugging it back in again.
Initially, I get a green flashing light when unit turned on, but after a minute or so, it turns to a red flashing light. It will take in the film tray only when blinking red, not when blinking green. My iMac has a hard time seeing the scanner, keep getting "scanner not found" messages. I have to go to system profiler and have it refresh and then it finds it, then the scanner software sees it too. But I have been unable to one preview out of it, says LED error and that's it. Using 10.4.10 on an iMac 20" with 2.5gb of RAM, using Pshop CS2 or going through Minolta Driver of OSX I got off of VersionTracker. I did remove the screw for transport right away. Will feed in 35mm tray with red blinking light, will not feed in 120 tray except partially with red blinking light, and only a couple times out of maybe ten tries.
If you are using magellan 1000i with no button, then it must be your scanner broken. But If you use a button trigger try to push it a while. The Button is on top of the scanner, with a white / light green color.
Try this as a last ditch effort.
Remove the software.
Reboot the computer and come off line.
Disable the Anti Virus program.
Now install the soft ware.
Then try.
If the red light still flashes then assume it is new scanner time.
