Question about Dishwashers

Door assembly, Jenn-Air (Maytag) dishwasher

Hi,
The "soft drop door" on my Jenn-Air (Maytag) dishwasher, model # JDB6510AWP, has stopped working.  The components managed to disassemble themselves and now the door just drops open.  All the parts appear to still be there.  When I tried to fix it I couldn't figure out where the cable and spring attach.  It seems to loop around a plastic wheel that is part of the soft drop mechanism, but I can't figure out where the ends of the cable and spring attach.  I found a parts diagram online, but not an assembly diagram.
Any help is appreciated.

SOURCE: Icemaker flap/door does not mechanically open

The description says you have an LG fridge?  I may need the entire model # from the sticker inside the fridge to tell for sure, but there is a motor behind the dispenser controls that opens the door.  Let me know if you need more help.  Also, you can view parts and diagrams at http://www.appliancepartspros.com/.

SOURCE: Whirlpool refrigerator ice dispenser

The front cover is snapped on. There should be two slots in the bottom of the cover. Put a wide screw driver in the slots one at a time and pry out. It snaps off very hard.

SOURCE: Jenn-Air Glass Door - How to Clean

Sounds familiar. I saw this thread this afternoon while trying to clean my own oven window. My sense is it is definitely a design flaw. It's just too easy to drip something down the top door vents onto the inside of the multiple glass panes.

Here's what I did. I removed the door, following the manual instructions. Open the door to 1/4 and lift it up. Then I put it down on a soft surface and started removing screws until it came apart. It wasn't too complicated though it took some time. Be sure to keep track of your screws as you do this as there are a few different kinds.

SOURCE: kelvinator Opal CS 390 F door has dropped down on handle side.

My sister has the same fridge model. We've removed the door and the bottom bracket supporting the hinge had collapsed up inside the door. We're going to cut out a piece of steel (3-4mm thick) and glue it along the bottom of the door in order for the door hinge to insert into something solid. Looks like it's a weak point in the door construction. Pity Kelvinator wouldn't acknowledge the problem and come up with a solution (other than replacing the door at $340 - which is what we were quoted).

Soft drop door mechanism came undone The soft drop door tub wheel

It's held in place by a soft drop nut (99002192). If damaged, the tub wheel part number is (99002183), and the soft drop bolt is (99002189).

Dishwasher ''soft drop door'' mechanism came apart - door now drops

I had a similar issue as described by mc1bean. One day my Jenair dishwasher door just fell down. The right side spring was fine. The left side spring was still hooked into the door hinge but the cable was laying on the floor in 2 pieces. Over time it wore down and broke. I ordered just the soft drop cable. Now I could not find any installation instructions how to install the soft drop cable. After a few tries I think I got it right. Here are the instructions for hooking up the right side spring with the cable. The spring has to be hooked into the door hinge at the notch closer to the door. The end of the cable with the hook has to be hooked into the other side of the spring. The cable should lead from the bottom around the pulley up to the door hinge again. Now the other end of the cable has to be hung into the door hinge on the notch further away from the door. There is some slack, but it is not quite enough for the cable to get over the pulley when in rest position and undo itself.
I hope this helps others who have the same issue.

Hi,

The reason why i asked you for the make and model no. was that the rinse aid dispenser was actually banned on many older dishwashers because of a fire hazard. As far as the dispenser, try using bleach, not too much, 1/2 cup and run with out dish washing soap. it should work.

Won'r run unless I push the door

Probably a broken latch assembly.. UNPLUG UNIT!! Remove inner door panel to access. Also check for broken tabs on onside of console where latch assembly rests.
