Small Black bar at bottom of screen....

Hello everyone...i have a PVW 2800 that has a small black bar at the bottom of the screen. It sort of reminds me of a letter box effect but i know that this unit doesnt do that. I have cleaned thew heads and the video going inito it is good and it doesnt do it on tapes that it records just on tapes that were recorded in other decks and trying to play them back in THIS deck. Re: Small Black bar at bottom of screen....

Check your tape path. The Supply, Takeup or Pinch guides may be worn allowing the tape to track improperly. Also the the pinch roller may need to be replaced. These are a few things to check.
The earlier post about head switching is also valid. Good Luck !

Sounds like the head switch point may need to be adjusted.

The deck will accept a large tape but not a small one. I do not get an error code the small format just won't seat.

Most likely problem is the flat cable in the cassette housing. This cable breaks, and the sensors for large/small tapes can't tell the deck to move the reel tables to accommodate the tape.

PVW 2800 hour meter readings?

The reason you can't read the head hour meter, it's because the lithium battery only has a lifetime of 5 years so it's dead and you need to replace it!
