How can I tell if the rear suspension needs repair or replacement

My daughter took a friend's mom and grandmother to an appointment. Together they approx. 500# and sat in the back seat. My daughter and her sat in the front and weigh approx. 300# together. Way too much wt. for this small car!! I took it for a ride and did not notice anything unusual except a slight "clunk" when going over bumps that sound like maybe the spare. Any opinions?

Overload may have killed a worn bushing somewhere. You will need to look carefully. Otherwise, make different appointments or consider diets or air shocks!

Hi there. When trying to identify rattles and squeaks the first thing to do is remove everything from the car and I mean everything that's not supposed to be there - pens, bottles under the seat, everything from the glove box, side front and rear pockets, boot area and even the spare wheel - you never know what's under there. Only when the car is totally cleared should you take the car for a drive to check for rattles and squeaks. If you do still hear something, here's a little tip, if you hear the rattle when you drive over a rough surface, lightly touch the brake pedal, if the rattle goes away, you have rattling calipar pins which you may then wish to have replaced. Best regards, Scottech.

Easy walk around see if car is stil straight and push all 4 sifdes bit down fast an watch the dampening effect. optical inspect for broken springsd or oil leakages too. Most quick fit carshops offer free suspension test. shakening and measuring. beware some rip-off joints might conclude all shot and sell you new tyres also

Bad rear negative camber on 96 cutlass supreme . is it alignment related or a failed suspension component?

The rear suspension of a 96' Cutlass is pretty basic. If you do not see anything bent or broken it is probably worn out bushings. Most alignment shops I know will inspect your vehicle and tell you what needs replaced for a small fee. This will let you decide if you want them to go ahead and schedule it for the needed repairs and a final alignment. Or if you want to replace the parts yourself and then schedule it later for the final alignment.

the rear brake shoes are very similar on most vehicles so any isuzu workshop manual will have diagrams and photos on the rear drum brakes
Tell your friend to leave the vehicle alone if he doesn't know what to do as it is your life he is messing with

Air bag pump is running, new airbags . rear bags wont air up.

These Lincoln air suspensions are terrible. I have converted many over to coil springs at a fraction of the cost of replacing/repairing the bags. If the rear bags don't inflate, there is a broken air line to the bags or the bags are leaking

MY CAR IS RIDING LIKE A LOW RIDER I HEARD A LOUD GASP OF AIR AND THEN THE BACK DROPPED AND I CANT REALLY DRIVE IT NOW , I HERE THE COMPRESSOR WORKING LOUDLY AS ALWAYS BUT ITS NOT LIFTING THE REAR 2000 4WD...

If your not too familiar with air-suspension, send it in. But I can tell you that the air-compressor will not last too much longer if it runs constantly.
You need to go underneath and find out where the air is coming from while the compressor is running. It is possibly coming from a defective proportioning valve, bad air-line or defective air-bag.
