Cursor and text jumps for dell inspiron 1150

Click the Windows "Start" button or press the "Windows" key. The "Start" menu opens. Type "Cursor blink" in the "Search programs and file" text box. A list opens. Click "Change Cursor Blink Rate." The "Keyboard Properties" window opens. Click the "Speed" tab. A list of options appears. The "Cursor Blink Rate" section shows a "Cursor Blink Rate" slider displaying a range from "None" to "Fast." Click and drag the slider button to the "None" area in the far left portion of the "Cursor Blink Rate" scale. Click "Apply." Click "OK." The cursor stops flickering on the screen.

Gateway laptop screen darkens after boot up

Have you updated a Graphic driver? Does it Dim on battery and AC? Look at power settings. Control Panel, Power. You could Rool-Back the graphic driver to see if that changes the problem. A Gateway mt6841 has Windows XP OS, right?

I want to install a new windows

Turn your computer / laptop off then turn on again while tapping the F2 key to get into the bios screen.
Once in the bios you need to goto the boot section by using the arrow keys on your keyboard, once in thew boot section select boot from cd first, once you have done this then press F10 to save and exit.

From here it is pretty straight forward, Turn your machine back on and insert your Windows disk ( do this as fast as you can ) or you will have to restart the machine again.
Your computer will now start to install windows, just follow the on screen prompts.

Hope this helps

I just bought a brand new battery and. left It

Connect the power-cord, and turn it on.
If the screen still goes dark, then the battery is *NOT* the problem.
If you can login and start Windows, *THEN* disconnect the power-cord, and see how many minutes that the battery will continue to provide power to the laptop.

Blinking white dash during boot.

Something has messed with your MBR, master boot record, which is a small sector at the beginning of your first hard drive which tells the bios which partition to boot. You'll have to use your xp or vista's installation disc to repair the system.( Choose; repair this installation of windows when prompted )
While you are in the bios check under the boot section the order of your boot devices. If you have more than 1 HD check that the one containing your OS is first.

"Finger Print" sized shaded area on screen

A shaded or dark spot on the screen is usually a bad pixel area and is caused by being hit or pressed to hard in that area. It could also be that the liquid crystal (LC in the LCD) in that area has become stagnant, try rubbing the area and around the area pressing firmly, just enough to see a color change in the screen area, but not too hard that the area turns black. Rubbing the area will move the liquid crystal around and sometimes refreshes a darkened area. If rubbing doesn't work, then it's a bad pixel area, and will eventually become a dead pixel area with time.

Screen darkens

You first need to check the BIOS settings for the lighting level on both battery and ac power modes. Enter BIOS, and check those values first. If this doesn't solve it, there may be a problem with the dc-ac inverter that powers on the lcd lights. I don't think however that this is the case here, but if in the BIOS settings, the light/brightness is set on maximum on ac power and the screen still gets darker, this may be a harware problem however and should require a service center to have it fixed. But try the BIOS and other software settings before that. Most likely the problem is here.
