Graphic card

RAM can be located under the keyboard, or more commonly on the back will be a small panel with a picture of ram on it. The graphics or GPU is soldered on to the motherboard in most laptops and isn't replaceable. You would either need to buy a new motherboard $150-400 in most computers and replace it or buy a new computer.

I don't think you'll be able to. Most laptops, particularly the older ones, don't have user changeable graphics cards. On these models the only way to change it is to change the whole motherboard, this will work if you need to replace faulty graphics, but If you want to upgrade your system then it'll only work if your model was shipped with two or more different graphics chipsets.

Why does Toshiba satellite a10-S177 have 1gb ram limit? Motherboard? BIOS? Or just that 1GB SODIMMs weren't invented yet?

More specifically the motherboard chipset.

The motherboard chipset is the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.
{In reference to the motherboard chipset technology used for this laptop}

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

The Northbridge chip handles the faster capabilities of a computer.

The Northbridge chip determines what Processors can be used, what Ram Memory can be used, (Plus the amount), and High-speed graphics.

AGP and PCI Express being High-speed graphics.

A graphics card inserted into a PCI expansion slot is not High-speed graphics.
Neither is Integrated Graphics.

The Southbridge chip handles the slower capabilities of a computer.

{CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or simply Processor for short}

The motherboard chipset for the Toshiba Satellite A10 series of Notebook PC's, is an
Intel 852GMV.
The maximum amount of ram memory supported is 1GB.

  • The original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD is fitted into a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive cradle - Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD caddy.

      • Gently remove the cradle from the laptop, yes pull on it
      • Unscrew the original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive & remove it from the cradle.
      • Screw the new Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive into the cradle & refit the cradle into the laptop.

          yes you chould see iti but i advice to check if is onboard the graphic card or is dedicated,from another point of view the motherboard is a litlle difficult piece to change in laptop most people just buy other.
          if the graphic card is onboard then you cannot change because you will need to cut it out so is a no can do .
          if the graphic card is dedicated maybe you can change it if you find a card for this type .

          Toshiba satellite pro m15 s405 video card replacement

          Probably impossible. Most laptop graphics chips are soldered directly to the motherboard requiring a new motherboard if one dies, and very few are actual "cards." That being said, it looks like your's is a nVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go which might be a card. I'll do some research and find out.

          Toshiba Satellite A10

          I could be wrong, but most laptops have all the peripherals intergraded into the motherboard in order to get such a slim profile all on one board. The sound card, video card, network card, and all are non removable and non replaceable. When it comes time to upgrade, then you'll have to start looking for another laptop. Sometimes though, Toshiba will have driver upgrades on their website for new features and fixes.
