I have a sony notebook with a battery issue

The problem is most likely the DC jack in the laptop, a common issue! but to find out the computer must be dismantled down to the motherboard level and the DC jack resoled, might be enough to get it up and running.

Disconnect the AC adapter, remove any additional RAM that has been added and disconnect all peripheral devices connected to the computer.
If the computer starts normally after performing this procedure, the issue is being caused by the additional RAM, or the peripheral devices that were connected to the computer.

Remove and then reconnect the battery.

Remove and replace (reseat) the original RAM that came installed in the computer.

Check if the computer goes to BIOS, restart the computer press and hold the F2 key. If so..reset it by pressing the F9 key.
Try to boot the computer...

Notebook will not boot up and gives me opperating system not found error...

Take the battery out and try to boot the computer up with the external power supply.. If this works the the battery is shorted. If it doesn't then you will need to try another power supply, if that doesn't work then something internal has shorted in laptop

remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. put the battery back in and try to start it. if it still won't boot up, it may be a hardware issue.

Battery is shot, or motherboard is dead.

Display could be bad, try plugging in an external PC display to verify it.
Other than that it may be the main board is bad.
Some older laptops and PC's had issues with capacitors going bad and would fail to boot.
There was a recall but I'm sure that expired now.
If it's new and under warranty contact www.dell.com to get an RMA to send it in.

Hm, maybe your bios battery is dead. Try to buy a new one, and boot than boot it. A bios battery is usually under the keyboard.

This series of compaq laptops have an issue with current draw on the mainboard, you will need to send it to compaq for a new mainboard.

similar cases,,,,,,,,won't boot,,,,,1.) if with black display; please check your ram memory, if you have 2 take out it all and replace it one by one, try to boot one at a time,,2.) if with black display and the pan start functioning maybe your cpu is dead, try to switch it to another computer with thesame socket and voltage,if this computer won't boot also,maybe you got the answer.........hope to help
