CD drive does not recognise my discs(Sims 3)

I have an Evesham desktop computer. The disk drive does not recognise certain disks especially Sims 3 which I have just bought. The drives in other computers works but I dont want to install it on these so there is nothing wrong with the CD. What can I do?

Sims 3 comes on a DVD-ROM, therefore you need a DVD drive on your computer rather than a CD drive. As a test, take a disk that you know is a DVD (like a store bought or rented movie) and see if you can read that on your computer. If you cannot, then you probably have only a CD drive in your computer. DVD drives are inexpensive and easy to replace. You can purchase one at a local computer store.

I recently bought Sims 3 for PC. So, when I open my IBM disk tray and put the disk in, the computer doesn't recognize it and I cannot install the game. This game was a little expenisve, so I would

Hi Elizabeth,

Depending on the model of your IBM PC, it could be that it has a CD drive and not a DVD drive. The Sims 3 game is on a DVD. If this is the case you will have to upgrade your CD player to a DVD player.

To test if your drive is working insert an original music CD into the drive and see if it plays. If it does play you most likely have a CD player and not a DVD player, which means you will have to upgrade to a DVD player/writer drive anyway.
These are relatively inexpensive and retail for approximately $20 to $50.

Feel free to reply should you need any further assistance.

It sound like you have a recovery disk not an install disk. The recovery disk you have just lets you repair windows only. If you insert the disk after windows starts and it runs you can then try to back up what you want and delete what you don't want, then run a windows repair. Its the only option, My other suggestion is to purchase Windows 7 and do a clean install.

To verify whether the problem is with your cd drive or with your sims 2 disk, try running a different disk in the drive. If you are successful in opening and running the other disk, then your cd drive is fine and your sims 2 disk is faulty. If you've had the sims 2 disk for a while, it may be scratched.
If the other disk shows the same symptoms, I would suspect that your cd drive is bad and needs to be replaced.

Computer does not seem to recognise disc. I keep

Hello !

Either your disk or disk drive is problematic.

Try your disk in another PC to test. If the disk works, your CD drive is faulty. Try another disk in your computer's drive. If the disk doesn't work, you have confirmed that the drive is faulty.

If the drive is a problem, I would suggest to purchase a disk head cleaner, first. Then, if the drive is still a problem, it would need replacing.

Hope this helps.

Wont read any type of disc

1. this is usually due to the laser reader in the CD or DVD drive has failed or the disks are dirty or scratched. or the DVD drive isn't capable of reading the disks at a certain speed and need replacement .
2. of the DVD cable has become disconnected at the motherboard connection.
3.DVD drive may need replacement.

3 Disk Rotary not working

Are you using a disk that the machine can recognise? Some disc players do not recognise certain formats, so it might be worth checking the discs or formats you are using.

My cd drive doesn't recognise the disk inserted

Can you see the information on the CD/DVD from Windows Explorer? (NOT Internet Explorer). Some CD's/DVD's just won't recognize correctly from Auto Play. If you can see what's on the disk (in Windows Explorer) try double clicking the Setup.exe or Run.exe from there and see if it loads. I have the same problem on some of mine.

Installing the sims 2 double deluxe

Does your laptop have a DVD drive? It is likely that the Sims Double Deluxe disk you have is a DVD ROM and not a CD ROM.
If this is not the case, try clicking My Computer and selecting the CD drive to see if the computer recognises the disk at all. Run setup.exe if it does.

The sims game download instructions

Use Disk Utility to create a "CD/DVD master" disk image file.
Depending on the copy protection resident on the actual disk, this may or may not succeed. Some commercial disks have deliberate bad sectors which prevent you from making disk images of them.
If successful, then double clicking the .cdr image file will mount the disk to the desktop as if there was a CD resident.
