Like others, I get a display of Progressive Scan Mode

When trying to play a dvd, I get sound ok, but the screen is blue with the words "Progressive Scan Mode". I also cannot display the menu or setup or anything else, and I have pushed every button on both the remote and the player itself. The vcr side works fine. This happened right after having DirectTV installed and I suspent the installer plugged some cables in wrong, but they all look ok to me.
