Oops. Sounds to me like the lens has been jarred in the fall. Usually on start up, a diagnosis takes place and the lens is the first component. If it is bent, jammed or buckled in any way, the camera won't power up. That thing has a hu-a of a lens too! Dr Fuji might need to be visited. Get quotes tho cause they vary and sometimes turn around can be quite long. On site technicians are available in most locations, however once again...get a quote.

the red filter was not for having the camera in color mode, if you try switching it to black and white, then it will darken the sky and make clouds stand out, or in color mode if you are in a room with blueish lighting, the red filter can be used to adjust for that, but that can be adjusted by changing the white balance

Remove the camera's software and reinstall. If this fails to solve the problem, use a memory card reader to transfer images from the card.

i have the same problem. no fall or accident but problem is same. i think it is common problem on finepix f420 and fuji has to find a solution for it. the guarantie of the camera expired and after that the problem happened. fuji has to repair them for free because the source of the problem is the machine. so it is fuji. not us !!!

the only way to prevent it is buy a XD card

While Fuji does provide updates for the FinePix software, there are no free downloads of the installer that I have ever found. You will have to purchase another copy, usually available on eBay. You might find a dead Fuji camera with the software included too.
