I recently bought the Dyson DC05 at second hand market, I don't have the operation manual to refer to. Can some one please tell me how many filters are there within this machine as I saw one seating under the collected bins, The one on the top of it does not have anything in it. However it seems to me that it should have something on it and would that be a second filter, if so do you know the part number that i can get it for?
The DC05 has two filters. In terms of air-flow through the machine, one sits between the bin and the vacuum motor, the other is after the motor and is effectively the exhaust filter. The one that's missing on your machine is the first filter - it consists of a blue foam disc contained within a yellow surround (the base of the surround has additional filter material built in to it). Both components are washable (but be sure everything is absolutely dry before re-installing after washing). The filter you can see under the bin is the second (HEPA) filter. This one is usually quite long-lived but, if your machine has been used without the first filter in place, the HEPA filter almost certainly needs replacing too. The machine should never be used without the first filter in place, as that will risk serious damage to the motor and will certainly shorten its life. Incidentally, user manuals can be downloaded from dyson.com.

I appear to have suction but, when vacuuming there is not enough suction to pick up all the dirt. I have checked all the trouble shooting tips below and the problem is persisting. There also seems to be some overheating and "blowing" from the where where the coil is located.I assume you have confirmed that the hose is not partially blocked at all. With it removed from the machine, try running a small round stone from one end to another to see if it is totally clear.Secondly, the filter on top of the machine (the one you see when you empty it), this needs to be cleaned/washed on a regular basis - follow the instructions on the filter.Thirdly, does the lack of suction apply to all the attachments? If it is the carpet attachment, this does become clogged up with hair etc winding itself round the brush and the internal drive unit in the head, thus slowing it down. Also dirt and dust cloggs it up inside the head as well. It is posible to take the head to bits to clean it. Thanks

I have cleaned filters (and replaced) Checked for blockages in the hoses. Cleaned the beater bar--It will not get the pet hair off the carpet--is there a repair for this or do I need to replace the vacuum? It has plently of power and the suction from the hose is good just won't pick up dirt from carpet.

I have a brand new Dyson and the canister is full and it will not open up. I feel like the parts have been suctioned together and need a way to get them apart and clean out the canister.
