When TV Receives Input, Turns On & Off Repeatedly. Samsung TV, Model #: LN46A550P3F.

I own two of these TVs. The first TV, used more often, does not turn on correctly at all. The other, second, TV is exhibiting problems the first experienced before it stopped working completely. What happens is, when I turn on this TV without any input going in, it turns on fine. But as soon as I say, turn on my cable box, it begins turning on and off and making a very loud static noise, and there's static and distorted images on the screen. It does this for a while, cycling on and off, until it finally stabilizes and remains on and functions normally. It seems to need a moment to "warm up". The first TV has stopped functioning after a while of this, and the second TV is degrading in much the same way, requiring more and more restarts before stabilizing. I did a bit of research, and it seems to be a popular problem where TVs are turning on and off, and the PSU is at issue. But I think my problem might be slightly different since it doesn't happening until there's an input, so I suspect it might be an issue with the main tuner board. I want to know how I can fix this issue. Thank you.

SOURCE: LG 37LC7D

Howard,
Do not keep forcing this unit on - - This particular unit has a VERY commonly known problem and there are at least five tech bulletins from LG explaining this and other symptoms for the failure. In a nutshell there are coils that have to be removed and replaced with a jumper wire. This is not a repair you want to tackle so please get some experienced help for this one. A good technician will look-up the bulletins and educate themselves on the manner of the repair.
Almost all of the symptoms that can happen are intermittent and can be extremely difficult to verify. For this reason make sure to discuss with the technician that he replace all of the coils listed in the bulletin not just the ones causing your particular problem. Here's a list of symptoms that these defective coils cause, taken right from the bulletin:
1. Channels Or Menu Functions Scroll On Their Own
2. Remote Does Not Function
3. Tv Randomly Powers On And Off On Its Own
4. Dead
5. No Backlight

Hope this helps!

Samsung caps
http://www.avforums.com/forums/attachments/lcd-televisions/128595d1247354171-samsung-40-lcd-one-year-old-beyond-repair-caps.jpg

Above should be a link to a picture of the caps if not google " Samsung power supply caps" and look for other images.
Hope this helps

Once the back cover is removed the caps are obvious to spot (especially with that picture I forwarded) you need to label and remove all the plugs - unscrew the board from the chassis so you can get to the solder side of the board.
Once there all that is required is to observe how the caps are placed in - and + side of caps and unsolder the old caps 10V 1000Uf and replace with new ones of higher value 16V 1000Uf

If your feeling adventurous do it yourself otherwise get quote from a reputable shop.

Also google "Samsung power supply capacitor replacement" and there may be step-by-step instructions with pix.

Samsung ln46a550p3f xza turns off and on about 30 times before it stays on and is just getting worse

check the electrolytic on the main power supply it should be 470 @ 200 WV or close to that. It has probably changed values, and it has to heat up before it can get within tolerance

Hi i have an alba tv , im trying to connect a dvd player. I have connected the scart leads etc.I can not get onto the av channel so i can watch a dvd. Please help

Hi,

Firstly, please make sure you have connected the SCART cable correctly. This should be connected to a SCART OUT socket on the DVD player to one of the SCART IN or EXT sockets on the rear of the TV.

If you have correctly connected the SCART cable the TV should automatically switch to the AV channel when you switch the DVD player power on or insert a disc.

Switch your TV on, then switch the DVD player off and then on again. If the TV does not change to the AV channel you may have the SCART cable connected incorrectly.

Not all TVs automatically switch to the AV channel when the AV device is switched on. On some TVs the AV input is on channel 0 or 99. On other TVs the AV input is not assigned to a specific channel. On these TVs you need to look for a button marked "AV", "INPUT" or "SOURCE" - either on the TV remote or on the buttons on the front of the TV. The easiest way to do this is to insert a disk into the DVD player and start it playing. Then press the "AV" "INPUT" or "SOURCE" button (whichever one you have) repeatedly until you find the signal from the DVD player.

Please check your connections and try using the "AV" "INPUT" or "SOURCE" buttons. If you are still unable to watch your DVD player, please post back with the following information:

1. Model number of the Bush TV
2. Brand and model number of the DVD player
3. If you are using any remote other than the ones supplied with the TV or DVD player, the brand and model number of the remote.

I will then be able to tell you exactly how it should be connected and which buttons (if any) you need to press to access the AV channel.

Hope this helps. Happy New Year!

Regards,
BElectric

I have a Samsung LN46A550P3F that turns it self off and on continuously. I can unplug the cable connection and it works fine when using a AV input. When using its internal tuner it just turns on and off...

Try software upgrade first, if does not help, replaced the main board. The part# you can see a sticker on the PC board, the format like BN99-99999C.
