Craftsman 2.3 14" / Poulan 1800 auto oiler leaking

I have the above mentioned model in a craftsman saw. The closest thing that I could find was the poulan model 1800. The saw runs great, and the blade gets plenty of oil. The problem is that it puts out way too much oil, and when the saw is shut off, it keeps pissing oil out, so much so, that if i leave it sit for a week or so, the entire contents of the oil tank, will be sitting in the bottom of the case. I have replaced the gaskets on the opening on the opposite end of the oil filler cap. I need to fix the auto oiler somehow. It looks like a piece of tubing, and the opening in the tubing just leaks oil constantly well after it stops running....please help me. I totally rebuilt this saw and have almost $100 into it in parts and several hours in time. I love the saw, but hate the oil leak. Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Hate to say it, mine does the same thing. I have resorted to emptying it at the end of use, and storing it on an old piece of plywood. Hope someone comes up with something better....

Loosten the oil filler cap before putting it away. The tank is pressurized to force oil to the chain. Relieve the pressure before storing. Lou

Brand new poulan pro 4620avx--bar oil is coming out of oiler but not getting onto chain

Hello. Thin your bar oil just a wee bit with some kerosene. If you have a gallon of bar oil add 1/4 cup of kerosene, stir it up and you will be fine. For starters also, directly apply some bar oil to the chain so that you are always using a well lubed chain. Joe

Oiler on saw not pushing oil as fast as gas is there an ajustment screw or is it automatic and just needs to be cleaned

Your Operator's Manual does not address any oiler adjustment; an IPL for for your saw lists no oil adjustment screw.

Given the above I would conclude your saw has no operator adjustable oiler. If you think oil output is inadequate contact Poulan here:

I have a Poulan Pro 380 that is leaking bar oil.I can fill it with oil and it will leak out during the night.

I have 7 chainsaws. 6 of them if I forget to drain the oil reservoir will oil the surface of what they are sitting on. What you are seeing is normal.

IMO; use of the oiler creates a siphon. Any oil left in the tank will continue to siphon until the reservoir is empty. I could be wrong, I have been before.

Draining the tank works, nothing else I've tried does. HTH

My poulan leaks out it chain oil when i put it away and it is not just whats on the chain

So does my Craftsman, 2 McCullochs, 2 Pioneers, and a Remington. The oiler creates a siphon that is very difficult to stop in something as thick as 30 weight oil. The only sure way I've found to stop it is to drain the oil tank. I know that isn't what you hoped to hear but it is honest. HTH

I have 3 older Poulan chain saws, XXV, 1800, and 2000, essentially identical saws. They all use a check valve from the crankcase to pressurize the chain oil reservoir. The check valve apparently uses an...

These oilers are called diaphragm oilers and work fairly well when the saw is new with great compression. As the saw wears out, the compression drops and a side effect is less oil pumped. The diaphragm is replaceable and it's not horribly expensive. Most good saws use a gear oiler - and even the newer Poulans use gear oilers. The gear oilers tend to have less problems and don't rely on engine compression.

Poulan oiler don't work

Common problem with Poulan and Craftsman gas saws. Take off the chain and chain guide and clean out all the saw dust etc. Start saw without chain and look for port where there are signs of oil. If port is clear of sawdust, then it is likely the pump which is located behind the chain break assembly. you can get the diagram on Poulan website and the replacement pump will cost about $15 - $20 to replace yours.
