Problem for SanDisk 4GB Secure Digital High Capacity Memory Card

Card can not be formatted

i am trying to download games off the internet and the error message comes up that the disk is not formatted, when I try to formatt it another error message comes up that Windows cannot format the disk. It is a brand new Sandisk 4GB SDHC.

There is a write protect switch on the side of the card. That may be the reason why the comp is unable to use it.
