BenQ DVD RW Dual Layer burner (EW1621)tray not opening

-   Most new burners and ROMs use two motors. One to speed up the disk. The other for tray transport. The tray transport mechanism uses a belt to transfer power. Unfortunately, a case of a stuck door could mean a blown/worn motor (the usual case), which is hard/impossible to fix on your own, or a belt replacement. Try pressing the button and then messaging the tray door on one side and then the other. You can usually feel it start to pop open. Opening and closing it ofter sort of warms up the motor and for short periods be usable. Problem is, it never feels as peppy as when new, which to me suggests secondary motor problems.-   Guest

-   Same problem with Benq 1620. Tried fixing registry entry that been corrupted, removed drive and re-installed it, tried to pry it open using manual release hole - no luck with any of this. I suspect that hurling it against a concrete wall may open it.-   bobdog

-   Same problem as with the LITE-On Combo SOHC-5236V. It wouldn't open, makes the noise. I hit the manual release button under the drive (pin sized, use a paper clip) and then used a knife to pull open the drive. However, after inserting my CD, it fails to read it. Any Suggestions?-   Guest
