Question about Panasonic PT-51G44 51" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Picture stretched out

My picture is stretching vertically and fluttering but will show a clear picture at times.  I was told it was probably a  power supply issue so I changed the transformer but it did not fix the problem any suggestions?  I would really like to fix it myself.

Try calibrating your TV. Go to options or settings, then select calibration. For the picture being stretched, go select picture size and select "natural" instead.

Hope this helps!

The heads of the people are cut off the picture is to high

If the top of the picture is stretched and off the screen and the bottom appears normal, this is usually a vertical deflection problem and will need a repair tech to fix. If you continue to watch the set with this problem present it will only get worse and can cause more problems.

Picture Stretch on Panasonic PT-53WX54

Usually this is an indication of a failing capacitor in the vertical circuit. Have those been checked? I would look for 100ufd caps in the vertical circuit. Check with the tech.

Mitsubishi VS-60705 - picture flutters vertically and horizontally

This sounds like one of the 9 volt regulators on the small signal board is going bad, supplying less than 8 volts. I have seen this is several of those sets. The IC needs to be replaced and if you do not have experience in servicing projection TV's then I suggest letting a qualified tech handle it for you.

Stretching issue

You will have the ability to switch formats in component video but it may require the original remote, most of the RCA's have a format button. You may also be able to find it in the menu. The high pitched noise sound to me more like a transformer than a cap the FLY is definatly a possibilty but really so is just about every transformer/coil in the thing. The good news is if you can smack it, it s probably just a connection on one of transformers or coils. I'd gently press on them untill you find the one that is sensitve and resolder it, it can be the transformer itself in which case you can sometimes seal them with silicone but more likely must replace it. You should probably let a Pro look at this though because there is a lot of high voltage in there, be careful!
