Question about Phones

1 Answer

AT&T GoPhone I bought the GoPhone yesterday, called for activation. The number provided was for an automated system. I followed the instructions and at the end I was given a telephone number for Lousiana and I live in CA. I called and got a live person who informed my because I had gone through the automated system there is nothing they can do for me. So, I have a cell phone I can't use. What can I do to get them to give me a number in my own area? Vickie

Re: AT&T GoPhone

Nothing we can do here but here's what you can do:

1. Call them back!  Demand "THEY" correct the problem.  It was they who screwed up in the first place. Ask them to tell you who to call.  Ask them to Issue you  a right number or replace the old one.  Get a "RMA" number so you can go back to the store where you bought it.   If you bought it on line the same thing.  Speak to the Manager, get his name or ID number.

2. OR...Go back to the store where you got it. Demand an immediate fix if you don't get satisfaction.

3. You live in Calif where I once lived.  Calif has several very powerful consumer laws.  Use them! Make many notes on who you talk too at AT&T, times and dates.  File a complaint with the local district attorneys office and the State Consumer Affairs office, all  on line too.  I'd go as far as calling the local district attorney office right from the "store" and file a complaint.  That'll get their attention.

I had a similar thing happen to me but with the Internet service with AT&T. I did all  the above. It went all the way to the State Attorney Office filing criminal charges for "consumer fraud" against AT&T in the state of New York because Calif Consumers Affairs Office didn't get a response from them.  It got fixed but unfortunately 1 year later but it fixed the problem for thousands of other people too.  AT&T's attitude is I'm big you're little.  I got over $3000 for my troubles in refunds.

You are not helpless fight them!

When I call a number and they want you to press certain number on your phone, well on my phone I can't press any number except to dial a number.

Check and see if your phone is set to tone or pulse? If it is on pulse you need to change it to tone. If it is on tone, check and see if you have a send button, you may have to press it after you press the number...

How to empty my mail box

Here's a possible solution I found with a search engine:

I believe your callers MAY be reaching a "Voice Mail" system that is part of your phone service - from whatever service provider you have.

To confirm that this is true, simply disconnect the main base unit from the phone cord and then call your home number from another phone (such as a cell phone). If you still hear that "mailbox full" announcement, then you have confirmed that there is some kind of voice mail system active - and full - on your home phone number.

So what that means is that you will need to contact your service provider and get the official instructions on how to access that system - to listen to and delete any messages that are there. Each service provider has different procedures, but you can often call your own number - from your home phone - and get straight into the system. Once connected, there should be "speech menu" that will guide you through the messages and how to delete them.

Also, you may want to configure or disable this voice mail system so that the Uniden has a chance to answer calls while you are away. This usually involves either setting the number of rings on each system so that your Uniden can answer first, by having a lower number of rings than the voice mail system.

There may be other steps needed IF this voice mail issue is not the problem.

Call Forwarding?

Call forwarding and call blocking are features of your telephone company, not of your phone. Call forwarding with many phone companies, for example, is accomplished by dialing *72 and then the number to forward to. That number will ring and must pick up to activate call forwarding.
Since you didn't specify your phone company, you'll have to contact them for full instructions concerning their services.

Hi there, We have lost our manual for our kx-t7630 phone system, and we need to change the main greeting you get when you call in on the phone line??? Does anyone know??? Thanks!

I know...on the ones I install. Your Panasonic dealer has a set of instructions, and the special instructions that laid out the Automated attendant portion of your Voice Mail system. There's a chance that he has remote maintenance and can log into your sytem and give you the special custom greeting number and procedure to change all greetings.

New set as of yesterday. Red light flashing in upper left corner of phone?

You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when people calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.
