Cartier Women's Tank Watch

I bought it in Rome, about 10 years ago. About every 18 months, it stops working and I have to send it to the NY store for repairs. Each time it costs about $600. By now, the watch has cost me more than it's worth. Problem is I bought 2 watches --- one for my daughter and one for me. She has since passed away tragically. I'm wondering if there is any way to put a battery compartment in this watch so I don't have to stop wearing it. Very sad. Thank you for your help.

What has been the issue when the repairs have been done? My experience with Tanks is that any reputable watch shop will replace the battery for $20. I don't know why it has cost you so much, but if the model you have is an auto-winder, then there is no way to retrofit a battery - although for $600 someone may be able to change the internal watch out completely.

I would suggest you do the following........

Pull the bezel out to the first notch then wind the it back and forth for a couple of minutes then that should be it.

How do i know this. I have had a Roadster for a 6 years and just found this out yesterday.

Enjoy the watch.

SOURCE: setting a cartier chronograph watch

  1. click the top button to stop the second hand
  2. click the bottom button to reset the timer
  3. pull the crown out all the way
  4. twist the crown forward hard and fast for a few seconds. The minute hand will start advancing very quickly.
  5. when the desired date and time is reached, push the crown back in place. If you missed the time, pull the crown back out and twist backwards. The minute hand will move slowly in reverse. If you twist hard and fast, the minute hand will start spinning in reverse again.

I have a Cartier Tank Francaise, and the clasp seems to be loose, as it keeps opening up. The watch is about 10 years old already.

replace the clasp, I see it all the time in this model watch. I usually charge $50.00 for the clasp for these watches, It can be adjusted but it will loosen within the next year or less.

Hi, I gave my husband a cartier Panther about 7 years ago and he totally hates the watch because it never works. We have taken it to get checked out at jewelry stores but the people always tell us is the...

The most reliable solution is to send it back to Cartier.

They pride themselves on quality and if you complain loud enough, they may jump into action, although if you had batteries put in by anyone but one of their approved dealers, they may prove difficult.

(If it has a balance wheel, then it sounds like a mechanical adjustment may be all that is needed).

  • Visit an authorized Cartier watch dealer at a high-end jewelry store. Use a jeweler's loupe to inspect the Cartier logo, the dial, the hour, minute and second hands, color, case back and the movement, which is the small electronic or mechanical device that runs the watch. Also examine the bracelet or strap for future comparisons of Cartiers at other dealers. Obtain a copy of the Cartier sales brochure or catalog and read it.
  • Inspect the movement by asking the seller to remove the case back to view it. It will be engraved with the Cartier name. If the seller balks at the request, don't buy the watch. The seller may have something to hide, according to Spotcounterfeits.co.uk.
  • Consider the heft of the Cartier if you are considering purchasing a watch from an independent seller. Knockoff Cartiers are considerably lighter than the genuine article because they are made with cheap materials. Examine the Cartier logo to see if it's spelled correctly. Knockoffs usually originate from non-English speaking countries where English is not the primary language and workmanship is poor.
  • Drop a tiny bit of water on the crystal. Cartiers feature a sapphire glass crystal, in which the water beads on contact. If the water smears, the crystal is a cheap imitation.
  • Examine the Cartier trademark polished cabochon gemstone on the crown. The stone should be set firmly in the crown but not glued on. Use a jeweler's loupe to look for traces of glue.
  • Examine the Cartier logo of twin Cs on the case back, dial and strap buckle. The logos should be gracefully produced with no rough stamping..

WHERE CAN I GET A RESERVOIR FOR MY CARTIER LIGHTER

The reservoir tank can be the bane of existence for a Cartier lighter owner. Unlike most butane lighters which have gas tanks integral to the lighter, Cartier utilizes a user removable tank. Cartier only warrants the tank for two years. I've also seen tanks that say 12 months. New Cartiers come with one spare tank. I've seen spare tanks come up on eBay from time to time, for $30 - $50. If not, picking up a beat-up Cartier on the cheap just to remove and use its tank is an idea. Cartier does not sell spare parts of any kind (other than flints), so if your lighter needs a new tank they will probably insist you get a complete maintenance service, which can cost up to $300.
