u can buy power supply testers, just a device you plug the power supply into, or try a new power supply. but if nothing is happening no fans etc theres a good chance its just the power supply.

Nothing happens when ON button is pressed, only green light on power supply is on. The fan is not running either. Preceeding this event, computer will run only whe I kept ON button for several seconds.

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause this problem hope this helps

My computer won't start. Power supply (ttgi 450ss) has a blinking green light and the power supply fan starts when plugged in. Motherboard (asus m2npv-vm) has a green light illuminated between the pci...

See if you plugged in the 4 pin power connector on the motherboard besides the main power connection on the power supply (usually black colored and its a plastic 4 pin connector)

Try another power supply if all else fails. If new power supply does not work with this unit then its a motherboard which is blown and motherboard needs replacing.

Hope this helps

Try connecting a different power supply to it. If the same situation repeats, then it's an internal (motherboard) problem. If the problems go away, then the power supply needs to be replaced.

6 years... I'm surprised the PSU even lasted that long! The power supply is the cheapest part of the PC and usually one of the first parts to fail. Don't worry, a replacement power supply is not too expensive. Good luck!

Power supply has several voltages. Just because the 5v power is active doesn't mean all the voltages are OK. You need to have the power supply tested for 12v and 3.3v. A quick test is to unplug all the wires from the power supply. There is a single green wire on the motherboard main plug. Connect (use a bent paper clip) that green switch wire and any black wire. Plug in the power supply and it should run (fan starts)

Gateway 500x Power Problem

First Thing I would suggest doing is to have an Electrician come and check out the Circuit(s) in your housr that were blowing fuses. As this is likely due to power surges and/or short circuits, and thats likely to be a fire hazzard. Not to mention that it could just as easily damage any repairs you make to your PC.

After you know your electrical lines are OK then we can start on your PC.
There are several components in your PC that are easily damaged by power surges. I will list them in order of their likelyhood to have been damaged, any one or even all of them MAY have been damaged.

Power Supply Unit
CPU (Processor)
Video Card
Ram modules

You could try replacing them one at a time Until you finally get the right ones replaced, but it might be more cost effective to take it to a certified repair facility for Gateway (Best Buy, and Circuit City are both good choices in the US)

I would have them give you an estimate before they do any repairs because if many or ALL of these components were damaged, it might be cheaper to buy a new PC.

Hope this helps
