Thanks for your post.  How do I determine which board has failed, or would it be better to just replace both.

  • afterhours Oct 30, 2007

Boards should arrive today. Will keep you posted. Thanks tremendously.  Did find a troubleshoot guide for it and I found that the lamp from the boards were not operating at all.

    Thanks,

    Mike,

Installed the jumper and the icemaker did not work. Pulled the icemaker and jumpered T and H and the icemaker did not work. Removed the icemaker, cleared all the all ice in the IM and warmed in too room temp and reinstalled. IM made one cycle of ice and did not make anymore. Is it now necessary to buy a new IM? \

    Thanks,

    Greg

The quick answer is to turn the water off to the refrigerator so it quits making until you get it fixed.
If your fridge has the control boards in each side of the freezer cabinet that controls the icemaker, then you have a failed board.
If you have a standard icemaker with the metal shutoff arm then you have a failed motor module in the icemaker.
You can remove the icemaker and unplug the wiring connector from it so you can leave the water on to the dispenser.
Post back if you need instructions on reparing it.

They come as a set. Part number is 4389102.

The one on the right is the one that puts power to the icemaker when it is time to dump the ice.

    Thanks/Mike

That's interesting. The icemaker wouldn't quit making, now it won't make at all.

Let's start with the easy stuff first. I suggested that you turn the water off or unplug the icemaker. If you did one of these make sure you have water on and icemaker plugged back in.

If this is ok, you will want to double check the connections at the boards and make sure they are plugged in correctly. I assume the control slide is moved to the on position also.

If all of this is correct, you can bypass the board and check the rest of the system.

Remove the board on the right side.

You will see two wires in the connector that are black. One is solid black and the other is black with a white stripe.

Use a small wire to cross these two wires together. You can use a straightened paper clip that is taped up well.

WARNING There is 120 volts on this wire.

This will bypass the boards and put the icemaker into a cycle.

If the icemaker goes through the cycle properly, there is a problem with the new boards. If it doesn't cycle, post back and we will check the icemaker.

    Thanks/Mike

Have you been able to find the problem as I described?

Post back and let me know what you found.

    Thanks/Mike

Look at the center of the gear on the icemaker. If the gear has red lettering on it see if the small plastic clip that holds the gear in place is broken. You should not be able to wiggle the gear on the shaft. If so you will need to replace the motor module on the icemaker. This is very common, but it is odd that it would quit making now when it was making too much before.

Let me know what you find.

    Thanks/Mike

Now you are at the point where you will need to do some checks with a volt meter. If the icemaker won't cycle with the board bypassed and T and H jumpered at the same time, then the motor module is burned out or the thermal fuse in the icemaker harness has opened. This is a very odd problem.

The only time I ever see multiple failures in one of these is when the water valve shorts out. This will kill the module switches and the boards. But yours was making ice ok until you changed boards. Very strange.

With the board bypassed you should have 120v between L and N on the module. If you have that the thermal fuse is ok.

If the temprature of the icemaker is below 11 degrees F the points between T and H should be closed. If not then the Bimetal needs replacing. This is what you bypass when you put a jumper there.

You can bypass the boards and jump between L and V and make sure the water valve opens.

Post back and let me know what you find out.

    Thanks/Mike

The control module has failed on the ice maker. You can replace the control module alone, but I would replace the ice maker completely.
Here is a link for the control module.

My uline BCM45A ice maker is cold but does not make ice

This unit work on the thermostat. When the temperature gets between 10 - 15 degrees it will satisfy the control then turn the compressor off and icemaker will advance. If the control is set too cold then it will never satisfy the control. 1st make sure the thermostat is at the warmest setting. When the compressor cycles off look to see if the icemaker is advancing. If no then replace the control.

Keeps making ice, i can't seem to make it stop.

You have an emitter and receiver in the freezer section...Actually when you slide the lever on the right side in the middle of the freezer section, you break the beam...and it is suppose to stop the ice maker from harvesting ice anymore. If this shut off device fails, it can fail in the on position and continue to make ice. Replace this assemlby sold in a kit and you will be fine. In the mean time, if you can remove the ice maker head and unplug it, that will stop the ice until you can replace the emitter and receiver assembly. You can also shut the water off but the ice maker will continue to operate, just not dispense ice. If extending and waiting on this repair you should disconnect the ice maker.....

    Icemaker stopped making ice

remove the front plastic cover on the icemaker and you will see a bunch of little holes make a jumper wire out #10 or 12 house wire strip about 1/4 inch off the ends an insert in the holes marked t&h this will start a test cycle make sure you hold the plastic insulation so you don't get bit if the ice maker starts cycling remove the wire and watch for it to stop listen for the icemaker valve to open if the ice maker finishes and the valve didn’t fill replace the water valves if the icemaker doesnt cycle and you may have to kind of twist the jumper back and forth to get it to make contact depending on the gauge you used then replace the ice maker motor module if you hear the valve open and the ice maker doesnt fill check for a frozen ice fill tube that should do it
