Question about Husqvarna Chain Saw 20" Bar

1 Answer

I have a newer model Husquarna chainsaw. When I give it extra gas it stalls in the sweet spot. If I give it max gas it cuts off. When I try to saw it wants to cut off also. I changed the gas and tried that but still it is stalling.

You need to set the mixtures for the carburetor. You will find a Low and High adjustment screw. At idle turn the screw in or clockwise until the rps starts to decrease. Then start turning it out till you hit max idle rpms. Turn screw back in a quarter to half turn and it should be idling smoothly. Be careful here and get someone to hold saw if necessary but hold in throttle to full speed and do the same with high adjustment screw. turn it in till rpm starts to drop then back it out until you get to max rpm and it won't go any higher then turn it back in a half a turn. If you have to change the high rpm jet a lot you might have to go back and readjust the low rpm jet again and set the idle speed. Never idle it high enough that the chain turns while at idle.

We used to have to do this a lot in timber business. You go up on the mountain to cut logs and the altitude has high enough that you had to adjust carburetor and then do it again when you got back to the sawmill.

That's tough, but yet another reason I don't buy husky chainsaws. Stihl prints part numbers of EVERYTHING, so using them, it's easy to know what model they go to hence what saw they're already on.

What would cause a new chain saw not to cut

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it sounds like you are saying your chainsaw is newer and runs fine, but it just isn't cutting wood well?

If that is the case then it means the chain wasn't sharpened correctly. Lots of guys do it at home and don't file down the raker teeth in front of the cutter heads, so the teeth don't grab into the wood and just nibble at the wood and make fine sawdust. It is always best to get the chain sharpened at a saw shop first so you can get an idea of the correct angles and depth of the rakers etc. After that you can try to match the saw shop for a while with a round file to take off ragged edges unless you have a decent professional saw sharpening unit.

What are the air and gas settings for a poulan micro XXV chain saw

adjust the L screw in fully till right in,then out 1.5 turns, same with H screw. Then start saw, adjust L screw in or out slowly till you get max revs. You may need to lower idle via idle screw if revs too high. When screw cant acheive better revs, reset idle. Then, rev saw to max revs, adjusting H screw to get max revs, then when max revs acheived, turn screw anti clockwise 1/4 turn out. That gives it enough petrol to cool the tip of the plug

How do i set air on husky 435 saw to fix boggy runnin

Mitch:

Adjust the fuel and air mixture screws while the saw is running... you'll find that "sweet spot"... it just takes a little patience! Small adjustments... If you over adjust and the saw quits running or starting, GENTLY turn both screws in all the way (don't damage the needle valves or seats) and turn both out one and a quarter (1 1/4) turns out. The saw should start, then adjust from there.

It keeps stalling on me

This could be one of many problems:
To start, is this the first time you have used the unit in a while? Did you store it with gas in the saw? How old is the gas that you are putting in? The factory call center will tell you that today's gas is only good for about 30 days before you should use it. If it is old gas, get new gas, make a new mix and try again. If that doesn't work, check your air filter. If the air filter looks good, the carb either needs a good cleaning or an adjustment. The newer poulan saws require a special tool to make the adjustment. If this is a newer saw (1 year or less), 1 carb adjustment is covered under the warranty. You can find the list of authorized service centers on poulan's website. Without a model number, I can't help you with specifics on where the air filter is, etc. I hope this helps.

I can start my chain saw but when I give it more gas it stalls.

Hi jbboitnott,

There are 3 things I can think of that would cause that problem. First, the saw was not warmed up enough. Second, did you cut the choke back after your saw warmed up? The third cause would be that your carburetor is not adjusted correctly.
If you did the first two things, then you could try adjusting your carburetor. The carb has to have a richer mixture when it's cold than when it has warmed up. If you have your carburetor set with the mixture too high, it would start but then choke on the extra gas when it was warmed up. Thus, you should lean out the carb.
Huskys carb adjustment screws are on the same side as the oil and gas fill caps. They are above the gas cap. The screw on the left is for leaning the carb, the one on the right is to richen the mixture.
So, turn the left screw, sometimes marked "L", counterclockwise to richen the carb. Adjust a very small amount at a time. Let it run a little, cut some wood, then adjust again, if need be.

I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks for visiting fixya.com

Chainsaw dies out when gas is pressed to full throtle

Carb needs teardown and cleaning. May be a stuck float or clogged jet.
Spraycleaner just wont cut it.

Engine cuts out when given gas

if theres nothing wrong with it you should close the choke between half and quarter (depends on the engine) and gently rev the engine bit by bit till it warms up, you will find the revs increase with gas to a point but if you give it any more gas it will start to stall and cut out, you have to wait for it to warm up - by keeping the gas at the sweet spot where you get best revs without it cutting out - then slowly increase gas pressure as the engine warms up - you can press it a little bit more bit by bit as the engine warms up and the combustion gets better - eventually you will be able to press the gas fully kin and the engine will just run but sound bogged down or gasping for air - this is when to open the choke to the RUN position (or fully open) --- it's now ready to use.
To restart a hot engine when it's been stopped : 1 Prime the engine - 3 squirts - (you wont flood it - plus it lubricates the top of the cylinder with fresh 2 stroke and is good for the engine) 2 Hold gas a quarter way open 3 Pull cord! as soon as it fires give it an extra squeeze of gas to give the best chance of a clean start.
