My Haward perflex EC-40 filter allows DE and dirt back into the pool whenever we start it up or vacuum.

There's a hole in the filter allowing DE and dirt to pass. Find hole and repair or buy new. I just bought new grids off of ebay, great deal. I payed $112 for complete set by Unicel and saved over $100 My filter is a Hayward DE4820

Hayward Perflex EC-75. The DE is gumming up after about 1 week all up in the fingers. Keep taking the filter apart and washing it down then replace the DE but only getting one week out of the new...

I maintain three commercial pools ... one a hot tub. We replaced the DE with sand filters this spring. The last year of DE - even with insisting the patrons shower first, we only got one week out of the DE ... and we were dumping the water also. Suntan oil, body oils ... it was a mess. The water was sparlking for 6 of the 7 days ... The only way to keep it that way was dump the water and change the DE.

Maybe your filter is not big enough. Had you given the gallons or the size of your pool, I would have calculated the filter area for you. If you can post it and if FixYa, notifies me, I would be glad to do the calculation.

Try checking the users manual. I don't have an exact answer for you, unfortunately, but the users manual for these pool filters is comprehensive and has diagrams. Hopefully, you can find your answer there.

We have aEC-65 hayward pool filter with a 1HP motor why does the pump slow down run at higher pressure ?

I believe that this particular model is a DE pool filter. Is that correct? If you are operating with a media other than DE, let me know. Assuming that you ARE using DE:
1. You DE could be coated to the maximum with pool dirt algae, etc. To correc this problem, you need to bump the filter.
2. You could have an overcharge of DE. To remedy,
Bump-Drain-Recharge.
3. Restriction in return line caused by small
eyeball fitting. To correct, change to a larger sized fitting.
4. You could have a partial closed valve on a return line. You will just need to open the valve.
5. Make sure that your pump strainer basket and pool skimmer basket are not clogged.
6. Make sure that your pump impeller valves are not clogged.
