Make sure the flame is hitting the thermocouple. If it is and you are still experiencing shut down, inspect the connection at the gas valve. Make sure it is not cross threaded. If you have done all this and still no flame, you are looking at replacing the gas valve.

If you have a good multimeter that measures Millivolts, connect one lead of the meter to the thermocouple and the other to ground. You are looking for between 500 and 750 millivolts when you apply a flame to the end. This will tell you if the thermocouple is good or not.

SOURCE: rinnai gas heater model RCE-318H

Real odd one as if ignition fails this unit is designed to flash various lights to give you an idea of what the fault is. Also this usually happens after about 10-15 seconds. I'm going to have to ask you to clarify that no other lights flash. If I had this fault exactly as you descibe, after running some basic tests to check gas supply and any obvious damage or burnt out components I would change the the main PCB as a start and the control PCB as a plan B.

SOURCE: Older style Rinnai gas heater

not a problem. however, if you want to shrink it down... it's hard to say just what your gas valve is like. There should be 2 spots on it for adjustments, the larger slot (should be covered by a brass plug) adjusts the main burner output, the smaller adjusts pilot output. crank it down and watch the pilot shrink, but in this situation bigger is better. the pilot creates an electrical signal that opens the gas valve, you don't want that signal to be too weak.
It would be wise to clean the pilot supply, to have a cleaner flame. pressurized air does well with out having to remove it.

I have a 30000 btu rinnai floor heater mod 630530. The pilot wont stay lit . I have installed a new thermo couple . please help

be sure the thermocouple is in the pilot's flame and hold down the pilot lighting button long enough to heat it before trying to operate the heater...20 to 30 seconds should be enough. If this doesn't work, you may have a bad gas valve

Pilot light goes out when heater shuts down

Check the position of the thermocouple and if there is one make sure it is very close to the pilot flame Usually when a pilot light will not stay lit, it is an indication that the thermocouple is bad. Replace it.

I can get the pilot light lit but will not stay on to light the burners

Try cleaning the thermocouple or replace it. The thermocouple senses heat from the pilot light and in turn brings up the gas to the main burners upon request from the thermostat.

Rinnai wall heater won't lite.

You may need to take the pilot assembly apart and clean the pilot orifice. If the pilot does not stay lite you may need a new thermocouple. Good Luck.
