"whinning", dry grinding noise from under riding mower

I removed, sharpened and replaced the (3) mower blades on my Toro zero turn Z5300 timesaver mower and when I cranked it, I now hear a noise coming from the pulley area that houses a belt, transmission?, that runs the width of the mower. This belt is not the blade belt but the smaller belt directly under the seat. The noise sounds like the pullies need lubricaiton but how? The noise also increases when the rpm's increase?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jim

sometimes you need to remove the suspect belt in that area to free up idler pulleys and then spin

    by hand and listen.

they should be free spinning and quiet no ruff sounds.

sealed bearings fail due to use and grease fails or water has entered bearings

Most do not have grease fittings and entire pulley has to be replaced for that mower or when the pulley is removed you can carefully remove the rubber seals on the bearing itself and force grease on each side of the bearing itself put seals back and this would help for awhile unless the bearing is siezed or still feels like it is still rough after grease is installed.

as far as transmission noise check your manual but i think those transmissins are

pre lubricated from the factory and require no service other than keeping the fans and housings clean?

also check your belts for glazing and cracks or dry rotted that will create noise also.

just a couple things to check hope this helps some?

All bearings that run belts & pullies should have grease zert fittings to lube the bearings with a grease gun check if there is fittings then use a small needle or punch to push down on ball on top of zerts to make sure they are free to alow grease to enter grease them till grease comes out from under neath or the top of bearings

How do I change blades on a toro 42 in zero turn

Lift front of machine and secure,

Use a pipe wrench over top of blade and against deck, to keep blade from turning,

Use 1/2 " breaker bar to loosen bottom bolt,

Remove blade,

If the bottom bolt doesn't loosen, you may need a wrench at top of deck, above the bottom bolt, to loosen the bottom bolt.

Replace, or sharpen blades, install in reverse order.

GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

I have a twin blade Toro riding mower. It leaves an uncut stripe in the middle. How can I fix?

Sharpen the blades on both. Dull blades will fold the grass down.

Toro 50" time cutter when engaging blade loud

I would remove the deck and belt, then spin each blade to isolate the loud noise. Also, make sure the blades are not bent hitting the deck. I always balance my blades after sharpening as well. By isolating the bearings spinning them one at a time, this will tell you where your problem lies. Hope this helps!

Sharpen the blades, very sharp, and lift the deck one notch from where you normally cut. Some times the blades will get dinged,or the ends of the blades will dull.

Why does the mower blow out chuncks of grass, i am not cutting to low? ive only usewd it 22 times

1. Sharpen the blades
2. Cut when the grass is dry
3. Ensure the belt to the blades is not slipping.
4. Clean the underside of the deck after each use, use a scraper if you must but keep the buildup to a minimum
5. Run the throttle wide open during cutting

The mower is mowing uneven in the front. what can i do? it seems that it is scalping the grass but both sides are level

Look under the mower deck. If you can't see well and work on it, you may have to remove the mower deck and flip it over on the ground. Grass and mud buildup in the decj could cause a blade to pinch grass, 'scalping' the lawn. Clean it all out. Dull blades cause cut grass to look torn and brown. Remove and sharpen. Bent blade will cause uneven cut. Replace it. Good luck! Please rate if you found this helpful, thanks!

Blade not engaging

The blade will spin automatically when the motor runs because it is connected to the main shaft. If it is not cutting, it will have to be removed and sharpened with a grinding wheel
