Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

None of the electonic controls represented by lights on the front respond to a change in their setting. Door will not lock. Remains frozen on an 8 hour delay. Have tried unplugging and replugging with both front door and soap door open and closed.

The front light lit on my Whirlpool dryer is showing control locked

Hi.

If the front light lit is control locked, that means that your Whirlpool electric dryer had been set in control lock mode.

Control lock is a special mode that will prevent user from changing settings or using control until the dryer gets unlocked again.

The machine is set to control lock mode by holding down the CONTROL LOCK/UNLOCK button for several seconds. In the same way you can stop the control lock mode when the machine is already set to Control Lock.

When the dryer is running and Control Locked is on, the dryer can still be stopped by pressing the Pause/Cancel button, but cannot be restarted until the control is unlocked.

If the front light lit is control locked but the dryer door opens and it does not turn off, then you are probably in this situation. In that case, the door will be opening , but the machine still stays locked.

Disconnecting the machine from power, either unplugging power cord or tripping circuit breaker, won't help. The control lock system is designed to stay on in case of power failure.
If the machine is control locked, try unlocking it with the following procedure.

To unlock: Press and hold the CONTROL LOCK/UNLOCK button for 3 to 5 seconds to turn the control lock feature off.

If that does not work, try disconnecting power for five minutes to reset the machine, and eventually do unlock again. As said, cutting power alone will not cause the machine to unlock.

If the machine is still not responding, the lights stay on all the time, the dryer panel does not respond to control unlock procedure, and the door does not lock anymore, then it may be a defective control board.

If you are in this situation, before replacing the control board more parts, including the door lock must be tested. In that case the best option may be contacting the Whirlpool support number listed on the Dryer use and care manual, usually in the last pages.

In this case try resetting control lock as explained above, as told the dryer is more likely control locked and then stopped.

Regards.

Ginko.

"Control locked" light is on.

Which brand and model do you have? Many manuals are available through the manufacturer (Whirlpoool, KitchenAid, LG); appliances sold by Sears often have manuals at Manage My Life: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals .

The Control Lock is a child lock (to keep the program from being changed in use or starting a machine up with a problem load). To unlock it, you will need to press and hold one or two buttons (together) for 3+ seconds. The appropriate button(s) will have some text or icons indicating the feature; however, it is usually in a very small font. For some brands, press and hold the Pause/Cancel button. On LG models, it could be the Wrinkle Care button.

Please add a comment with your model and I'll see if I have your manual and give you the control lock toggle button(s) information.

I hope this helps.

WFMC1001UC door locked

There are safety devices that can prevent you opening the door or lid while the washer is spinning or agitating. This is for your protection, so don't circumvent these safety devices but after running a load and the door remains locked press reset button on control panel if it persist make sure the timer is properly set test timer if faulty replace check the lid switch remove detergent build up from orifice if any test switch it might be faulty then replace dont forget to rate this solution

Player is not responding cant shot off or on. when battery remuved it shots off

Betwenn the headphone socker and the power switch is the lock control. I'm thinking maybe your player is just locked. Try moving the switch to the other setting.

Let me know how you get on!

If the "door lock" light is not on, the motor won't engage. These are notorious for door lock failures. However, if the door IS locking, and you have no agitate OR spin, you'll need to go a bit deeper. ---> With the front panel removed, turn the timer to Regular wash and allow it to fill. Then, with a volt stick (google it), probe the wire harness that goes to the motor. If the tip glows, you know you are getting power to the motor, but it is not responding to it. A new motor and motor controller is the fix for that. If the probe does NOT glow, the controller isn't sending power to the motor. (BTW, the motor controller is the 6" X 8" computer box in the back right corner)Why? Using your volt stick, probe the wire harness that comes FROM the timer into the controller. If it glows, you know the timer is TRYING to power up the controller but the controller isn't responding... back to changing out the motor and controller. If the probe does NOT glow, you know the timer is not sending power to the controller. In that case, it would be a defective timer. Replace it and all is well in the world. I'll warn you that a timer is much more difficult to replace than you'd think... AND I've only seen 1 failed timer since working on these. Most likely a failed door lock.
