If you have no light you can't even hot wire it sounds like the ignition switch is bad in the start and run positions.

SOURCE: I have a 2005 yamaha venture royal star and i just

If it wont do anything then it is likely that youve popped a fuse
But it sounds like the battery isnt being charged properly. Make sure the voltage across the batt terminals is at least 13.5v at tickover rising to no more than 15.5v at higher revs

SOURCE: FUSE IS GOOD BATTERY HAS LIFE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. YAMAHA BWS 2004

Yes instrument lights at least should come on.
Power goes from the battery to the ignition switch via the main fuse, & then splits to ignition & lights (via auxiliary fuses if present) which are separate circuits.
The problem could be an auxiliary fuse (if fitted) then contacts inside the ignition switch or wiring/connections from the ignition switch out to the ignition circuit
That is presuming the cluster light bulbs work!

Hope this helps ( if so please mark as very helpful)

SOURCE: Hello, My Yamaha YZF600 motorcycle wont start.

Hi there jfdnet! Yeah if you hear the relay operating and the starter is getting no juies then you need to replace the realy. First i would check you see if you get power to the starter. Use a light tester to check the hot wire on the starter and if you do have power the starter is bad. If you have power going to the relay but not going to the starter then the relay needs to be replaced. It is always good to use a light tester of multimeter to back track from the problem to find the source. Example: You turn the ign. switch but the starter wont turn, start with the tester at the stater them back track up to the ign. switch. Eventually you will find where the power hits a "brick wall" of a faulty part. I hope that this helps you out. Post any more questions you may have.

Bike wont start, turn the key n everything lights up as normal, press the start button n just nothing

It could be the link from the starter button to the ignition coil. If you can check this for a current it should give an indication of the problem.

Starting fault

There are two safety switches that you may need to test. 1) Neutral safety switch- this switch is what tells the bike that it's in neutral and allows the starter to engage. 2) Kickstand safety switch- this switch will not allow the bike to run in gear if the kickstand is down. My initial guess is the neutral safety switch. If the neutral safety switch is bad, then you will not be able to start the bike with the kickstand down because the bike thinks that it's in gear (even if in neutral). This also may explain why the initial intermitent problem of not starting when warm since the metal contacts will expand and possibly not make contact when warmed up. Are you trying to start the bike with the kickstand up or down? If it were the kickstand safety switch, the bike would probably start okay and then die when you put it in gear.

I have an 89 GSX-R, won't start and lights/dash don't work

Hi there,

Well it seems that due to high voltage your bikes fuse must be blown, so suggest you first of all you check the fuse on your bike, fuse box is in the front, you have another set under your left tail fairing, which needs to come off, to get to the other fuse..... Follow your user manual to check location of your fuse box.

Good Luck!!

Neutral light won't turn on and bike won't start

The click u hear means your neutral isn't the problem, it means your new battery is trying to start the engine, however the power isn't making it to the starter. check the battery cables for good connection in the ends of the wires and at the start relay (the positive wire from the battery goes to the start relay that may need replacing) also from the start relay that you hear clicking down to the starter.make sure cable and nuts that hold them are clean in good shape. to get the neutral lite to come on the side stand doesn't do it, the shift lever does. you can be sure you are in neutral when the bike can roll without the clutch being pulled.If the bike is in neutral and the lite doesn't come on then replacing the bulb or sensor might be necessary.

My bike wont start up, fuzes are good, oil good, new battery. Bike wont turn over to star.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, determine if there is a clicking sound when the START button is pressed. The click is significant. If there is, this indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either indicate a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:
  • with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
  • have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
  • determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
  • while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
  • if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
  • if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty.
If there is no click, you may want to check the alarm/security/immobilizer if your bike is so equipped. others to check would be side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral light indicator.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
