If a higher voltage battery was installed then u have damaged/burned out the electronics of the camera, no matter what u are going to have to send it to a Canon repair center, there is no fix u can effect for this problem at home.

Hi,

To be really honest, this is the biggest blunder of using a different battery than mentioned. It would have been caused a short circuit or might have affected the internal structure of the camera.
I am afraid there is no Quick Fix in this case. You need to get it repaired. If you want to play with it, it might cost you some bucks in case you might not able to fix it.If under warranty, call canon and get it rectified.
If not, look for a local tech. Do not try to open it yourself, as it might be a small fault which you might not catch and you might harm the circuit in the end trying to find that.
I hope this would be the precise solution.
Thanks.

Please check the following things if the camera does not turn on.

Possible causes and how to handle them
1. The camera is not on
Turn on the camera. (Operation procedure varies between camera models. Please refer to the camera user guide supplied with your camera.)
2. The rechargeable battery is not fully charged.
Make sure the rechargeable battery is fully charged. If the battery has not been used for an extended period of time, or if it is being used for the first time, it may not be fully charged. In cases like these, fully charge the battery and then discharge it completely in the camera several times to bring the battery back to its normal performance.
The rechargeable battery's capacity diminishes the longer the battery is used. When the battery consumption becomes quicker, the battery life may be at its end. Replace the battery with a new one.
3. The battery terminals are dirty.
When a camera does not operate with a brand-new alkaline battery (for cameras that use AA-size batteries) or with a fully charged rechargeable battery, the terminals may be dirty.
Polish the terminals with a dry cloth and make sure the terminals are clean. If the terminals are covered with oil from your skin or similar matter, this may cause poor contact and power may not be fully supplied to the camera.
Also, polish the battery charger terminals with a dry cloth before charging the battery. If the terminals are covered with oil from your skin or similar matter, this may cause poor contact and the battery may not be fully charged.
4. The batteries are not installed correctly (for cameras that use AA-size batteries)
For cameras that use AA-size batteries, multiple batteries are used in one camera. Make sure the direction of each battery matches the direction indicated on the camera. If any of the batteries are improperly inserted, the camera will not operate.
5. The battery cover or CF card (SD card) slot cover is not securely closed
Most cameras have a lock mechanism on the battery cover. The camera will not turn on if the battery cover is not locked or securely closed, or if the CF card (SD card) slot cover is not securely closed. Make sure these covers are securely closed.
If your camera does not operate after checking each of these things, or if there is any visible damage on your camera that could be the cause, please contact the nearest Service Centre.

Hi
I think the problem is with the lens not being able to extend, possibly due to dirt. Hold the camera face down and turn the camera on while banging the corner of the camera against the hand. I think using gravity and the banging dislodged the lens, allowing it to open.
OR
what you can do is use rechargeable batteries for your camera. Alkaline batteries can cause power issues. Make sure that the batteries are inserted correctly.check your manual for proper battery orirntation.

D50 camera will not turn on. I charged the battery pack and reinstalled. Nothing. What do I try?

The camera is over 5 years old, so the battery is now weak.

Go to the store, like Best Buy, try with their battery.
If it comes on then buy that battery.

If you have DVM (digital volt meter), you can check out the battery voltage. But you can not check current safely.

It is brand new I charged the battery all day and put it in the camera and it wont turn on

Try to use non-rechargeable LR6 batteries.
If it still does not work the camera needs a repair.

Will not turn on

Not really, no. Assuming you've already tried the obvious of new batteries and checking that the battery and camera contacts are clean then there's nothing more you can do.

Diagnosing any completely dead electronic device is difficult, time-consuming and needs specialised test equipment. If you had the skills and equipment you clearly wouldn't be asking here so that leaves you just the professional repair option, but any professional repair will be uneconomic given that 35mm Canon Rebel/EOS triple digit models are worthless these days.

It's not all doom and gloom though, because they are worthless it also means they're relatively easy to get for free from places like FreeCycle and Freegle or even just by asking friends and neighbours. As all surviving 35mm Rebels/triple digit units are long past their maximum design lifespan you'll probably find that many are faulty, but I've been lucky so far and the only faulty one I've had was just a broken zoom lens.

Canon EOS 400D SLR - Err 99

Try going into the menu and turning off the lock for shooting without a lens. Then try firing it without a lens to see if it works. Very often a lens problem can cause the Err 99 message.

Also, check to make sure the pop-up flash is not stuck down. That could also cause it.

Unless you have used your camera a LOT, it shouldn't be a bad shutter. They usually only quit after many years of use. I think Canon quotes 125,000 shots as the normal life of a shutter in a digital SLR.

CANON EOS DIGITAL REBEL SLR

Try using a DVM for voltage reading of that battery.
If you do not have a DVM, then go to Radio Shack and let them test the battery or buy a DVM form them to test.

Since that is a Rebel, most likely the battery is over 4 years old, buy a new battery or just test store's camera's battery.

Most likely that your battery is not holding a charge and enough current. Just like a car in the cold.
