I have unplugged, refilled paper bin, checked for paper jam, checked ink cartridge. Still can't clear message. Does anyone have solution????
If you have the MFC 5460CN this is an easy fix rather than sending it in especialy if your not covered by a warranty. I had the same problem and found the common problem is the inkjet track comes out of place. Make sure your printer is unplugged!!!
If you open the machine up as if your installing the LAN or USB cable you will find that the control panel is held in place by 3 screws, remove those and keep them off to the side or just remember that out of all the screws you remove those are the small ones without the washer.
Next uplug the wires to remove the control panel completely.
Next you want to CAREFULLY or support the lid and remove the slide hinge from the left side of the upper half.
Then remove the cover from the left side and you will find wires, and the cover on the right side and you will find your strip, unplug the wires to pay close attention to where they came from and unscrew the two ground wires.
The upper half should come away from the lower half of the MFC now and all that is left are the bigger screws from the sides, the two in the middle and the 3 screws that were uncovered when you removed the control panel.
If you look closely you will see the inkjet which goes back and forth over the paper to create the image, there is a clear plastic track....if that is not in the groove on the inkjet you are not going to be funcitonal. place the track back into the groove and reinstall all the parts in reverse order and make sure that the upper half fits perfectly onto the lower half, especially pay close attention to the right front of the machines corner where the ink cartridges are installed cause it slides into place.
Once you have it together, if you have an init error look at the wires by the ground wires that have the tiny screw and washer, the multi colored wires and the blue wires may be backwards, switch those around and that should be the end of it all.
This is a very easy machine down to that point, I would not recommend going any further into this machine if the inkjet track is in place.
