I know it sounds expensive but at least you know Canon will fix it properly with a limited warranty on the repair. Remember, they have to take the camera completely apart to reach that part. If you're interested in seeing how complicated it is, google the words...disassemble a digital camera.

Shutter button

If the button has the small clips broken, you may be able to use some tape over the top.

The other option would be to buy a broken camera from some site such as Ebay, get one with a broken lens, etc. and use it for parts...probably cheaper than repairing.

Shutter button broke off

If the button has come out, then it may be that the parts which hold it in are broken, or other damage internally.
One suggestion is to buy a camera like it with another problem such as lens problems.
Trade the parts necessary.

Other option is to have it repaired. That may cost more than it is worth..

Stuck shutter release button on my D100

Ouch...

The damage may require parts, but maybe not. If I were doing the work, I would charge in the $50-$60 range , plus parts if needed.

Nikon will likely quote you much higher $200+

Shutter release button

Fraid not. It is increasing the case now that -with the exception of warranty work repairs are not feasible - The technology and models change so much are are no spares for older kit. A repair shop will cost you -packing shipping and inspection fee plus packing and shipping back to you with little prospect of a repair Money best put toward the next-more up to date camera in my view
