White Kenmore 564.98291890 - Freezing in refrigerator

I have a white Kenmore 564.98291890 compact frig. It has two doors: freezer on top and frig on the bottom. It's about five years old and it's been acting up in the last two months. The bottom frig is starting to freeze food and drinks. So I've been turning it off the dial and let it unfreeze for a few hours. I've also check if the unit is leveled and gave the back a few inches of space. I tapped the motor in the back and brought the dial to 0, then to 3 when I plugged it back in. For awhile everything works for two to three days. After that it starts to freeze everything. Is it something in the back or the computer board? Or is it because its on a thin carpet in my room?

Last time I adjusted the thermostate was Wednesday, Oct 31st. I just got the part yesterday and I noticed the refigerator hasn't froze (only the freezer). So right now I'm not sure if I should wait a few more days and install it or return the part.

I too have to replace this thermastat, problem is they have discontinued it. No recommended replacement from Kemore offered. Does anyone here know of a replacement unit I could drop in ? Thanks Tom

This is a pretty simple built refrigerator, no circuit boards or electronic sensors.
What it sounds like is your thermostat is sticking and not turning the compressor off when it gets to the correct temp.
The control knob is mounted directly to the thermostat, so when you turn the knob you are turning the thermostat.
The only thing you can do is replace it. It is a pretty simple repair you should be able to do yourself. Once you have the new part, UNPLUG the fridge, remove the knob and take the control box loose. You should see how to change it from there.
Be careful with the long metal tube that is attached to the new thermostat. It is pretty durable but if you break it the thermostat is ruined. They don't break easily but you should be sure not to kink it..
Post back if you need help with it.

Just wanted to follow up and see if you were able to locate your part.

There should be a screw at the top of the cover just behind the thrmostat area. If it isn't a screw, it may be a plastic fastener that will pop out with screwdriver or knife blade.

You can see it in the picture with a line pointing to the cover just behind where the thermostat goes in the cover.

    Thanks/Mike

Have you gotten the thermostat changed yet?

    Thanks/Mike

I would not recommend returning it yet. It is common for thermostats to stick, then work ok for awhile, then stick again. They will usually get worse and worse as time goes on.

    Thanks/Mike

Kenmore Model 10654613300 Freezer over freezing

In the freezer side there is a panel in the back. behind the panel are the evaporators. over the evaporators are heaters you will find one of then broken from water dropping on it the bottom one was broken on mine. put a fan to the freezer and thaw it out. get the model and serial numbers and look on ebay.com. or there is a place called http://www.repairclinic.com/
These are not hard to change but above all UNPLUG THE FRIG OR THEY MAY PUT YOU IN ONE.

Hope this helps.

Vegetable bin keep freezing food. Model # ED2CHOXKQ05

Hello,
That can be the result of a couple things. Check to see if you hear the fan running in the freezer side? If not, since cold air falls, the cold air could be migrating from the freezer into the frig bottom section through the air duct hole in the back of the frig behind the crisper drawers. If the fan is running the check the air damper in the top left of the frig section. If the frig side is cold enough you should not feel air blowing through. Air flow is only very slight. You will have to remove some plastic cover or duct piece to see if it is closing. If the air damper seems to be working properly, you may have a refrigeration problem indicated by frost build up on the lower part of the freezer back wall. You may want to call in a pro at that point. Hope this helps point you in the right direction. Good Luck

Freezer is very cold but main frig is not cold at all, we defrosted cleaned all ice built up under plate in freezer and still warm

did you check freezer fan behind the freezer? If not working check the wiring for it. If broken fan replace it. Find no leak in door gasket. Temp setting must be at least 5 degree.Thanks.

Replace door on Kitchenaid bottom freezer 2 top door model

Switch from white to red wines and drink at room temperature, or buy a new single door cooler that suits your fancy. The bolts may line up because of a single door model that shares the same chassis, but the cost and trouble of getting a matching door may not be worth the trouble.

I have a Kenmore Cold Spot fridge, freezer on top. Fridge is warm, and freezer keeps freezing up on sides and bottom. I cleaned it all out, defrosted it, and it still freezes up and fridge still won't get...

Is this a self defrost model? Frost inside the freezer could be an air leak around the door gasket. Remove the back panel in the freezer and completely defrost the coils. Is the fan running in the freezer. That will make the frig not be cool. With the door closed peek in the gasket to make sure the light is shutting off, this will warm a frig also.

Whirlpool conquest 2001 GS6SHAXKQ01 refrigerator side by side top part is not cooling

the first one sounds like it is slowly leaking freon.
  •  the second Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items. If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should probably replace the machine.
