You must of handled to motherboard incorrectly and possibly fried the SATA/PATA controller, usually found on the North or south bridge. My friend had the same problem, leaving the motherboard useless. IF this is a laptop your screwed (I.E. motherboard is junk). If this is a desktop you can either replace the motherboard OR you can buy a SATA/PATA card that inserts into the PCI/PCI-E slot to create a place to plug your hard drive in. Hope that helps.

Sata Hard drive errors and Raid errors

See this answer

Reboot your system and hit F2 as soon as you see the Dell startup screen (the options are F2 for setup, F12 for boot sequence).

In the System Setup screen, do these steps.

Select Drives:
Make sure your Diskette Drive (3.5 floppy) is set properly (Usually set to Internal)
Make sure that "Drive 0: SATA-0" drive is set to "ON"

Go to "SATA Operation":

Your system proabaly came set to "RAID Autodetect / AHCI" - THIS SETTING CAUSES YOUR SYSTEM TO GO INTO AN IDE LOOP AND DOESN'T ALLOW IT TO FIND YOUR FACTORY INSTALLED SATA DRIVE.

CHANGE THE SATA OPERATION SETTING TO "COMBINATION"

Reboot - make sure that the boot sequence is set to CD rom before HD and make sure that the reinstall CD is in the drive. Setup will load, hit enter to reinstall XP. Your HD should now be detected and you should see the licensing agreement.

If you have your files backed up I reccommend deleting the partition and reformatting prior to installing XP, it will give you that option after the license agreement.

Once you have successfully reinstalled the OS, Dell reccommends that you change the SATA Operation setting back to RAID AUTODETECT / AHCI (or back to whatever your factory setting was) to avoid any problems with other IDE devices installed on your system.

Operating system not found

I think it is either an issue with the hard disk or with the operation system ..If the operation system is damaged you will need to reinstall it ..This can be done from recovery partition or disk ..and in case you don't have such tools..use a boot-able disk with the operation system ..
There might be a different cause for this..if you changed teh settings for the bios..In this case usually it should give you a blue screen ..but who knows maybe will work ..
The fact that it says it do not found the operation system it makes me think it does not detect the hard drive ..and in this case go to bios by pressing F2 on start ..and in this window ..look on the first tab ..and locate the devices (hard disk ) ..and if it has the AHCI function on ..select it and disable it and let it run ide compatible ..Press F10 to save the settings made..and restart ..If this was the issue ..it will load the system right the way .This may be caused by a damaged ahci driver ..or if it never worked on that and you went to bios and restored it to default and automatically enabled the ahci function and it had no driver for it in the system ..
Good luck ..and let me know what you've managed to do ..

WI'll not open in safe mode it displays that unable to enable in safe mode or activate windows in safe mode

In this case the windows is corrupted beyond recovery ..and you have to make a new installation of the operation system or to engage the recovery partition or use the recovery disk if you have such a thing available ...If you do not ,just use a regular bootable disk with the operation system on ...and make a clean install ..after that locate the drivers for it ..from the manufacturer's support site ..sownload them and use them so that your laptop be able to work ..
if you do not have a disk with the drivers..I recommend to make one ..ore store the drivers on a memory unit ..before starting to install the operation system , cause after that you will not be able to connect it to the internet without the Lan card driver..unless you use an external wireless or so ..and have a separate driver for it ..So ..first make sure you download the drivers from here ..
http://support.dell.com/
(select drivers...than model /than operation system ..and download them all just to be sure...For some models there are more than one driver for a device ..cause they use more than one type on a model ..)
after that borrow or buy or make a bootable cd with the operation system ..and go for it ..
Press F12 on boot and select to boot from cd ...and be sure you have the bootable cd inserted ..and confirm the boot from cd by pressing a key (any) when it asks ..and the install process will go on ..

Dell XPS 700 will not boot. Running Win-XP-MC-32-bit. Previous fatal failure on one disk in a two disk striping array two years ago. Now running a Corsair 120Gb solid state drive as (C:) and the other...

It may be a case of not detecting the booting hard disk ..If the hard disk is on sata bus...it may have the ahci function enabled..and no driver for it ..In this case will try to boot and will give a blue screen with some memory issues on it and a lot of zeros displayed ..
The action to be made is to go to BIOS settings ..and look for the hard disk into the devices..(usually they are displayed on the first tab )
In there under the hard disk ..take a look and see if there is anything named AHCI enabled ..or raid enabled..This will also cause this if there is no raid driver installed ...basically will not see the hard disk but in BIOS ..
If you find the ahci function under the controlers...(ahci means advanced host controller interface ) you need to disable it ..and select to run sata as ide..or ide compatible ..mode..and save the changes with F10 and exit..IN this point ..if the operation system is functional .the system will boot right the way ..
There is another possibility ..that the operation system was corrupted beyond recovery and need to be reinstalled..This may be the cause for it not to boot ..and in this case..you need either a recovery disk .and engage it and select to reinstall operation system completely , or a boot-able disk with a operation system image on it .and the action si to boot-up from the disk ..by selecting the disk drive as primary boot device in BIOS ..or press F12 on start (or any key is pointed on screen at the start for to enable the boot menu ) and from the menu select boot from the dvd ..and will load the operation system again ..You will need all drivers for devices..and also programs you use to have ..
last possible cause..the hard disk is gone ..and need to be changed..But this is not something happening often and if it already happened to you twice ..you may think for the cause..It may be something wrong with the way you use it ..or the power supply you use may have something and burn them down..(or the cooling system ..It may be just a close system ...and not having enough coolers..or air way s..and overheating them to death )
let me know what you've managed to do ..and how it is behaving ..and I will think what else need to be done..

Than you in advance for any and all help pertaing to my issue. Problem: 3-4yr old HP laptop. Did have Win XPsp2 on it. HDD went bad. Used Barts PE to create bootable cd-rom with half working Win XP, but...

Why do it the hard way? If your HDD is bad, most probably the system files are corrupted too and getting/making a bootable CD from the HDD files is just wasting your effort. If you laptop CD/DVD drive is still good, then use the options below: -

1. Go to any torrents site download "hp oem xp" disc from the site & burn the bootable image to a CDR.

2. Go the the Hp support Site & download the XP drivers for your Laptop model.

3. Then you can do a new installations on your Laptop.

Hope it helps.

Toshiba Satellite with no OS will not restore to factory with CD

go to bios settings by pressing F2 on start and choose under the boot device to first boot from cd ..this will make it choose the boot from cd first ...and get into recovery mode if this is the kinda disk you are using ..
Another thing is that many laptops came with recovery cd but this will not have a operation system on it ...in this case you have to use a operation system cd first and after that restore drivers and settings with the recovery cd ..Be sure you use the same operation system it came with ...so in this way you can use the drivers from the recovery one...if you change for example from Vista that came with ...to XP the drivers may not be on that disk if it was on vista from the manufacturer...
so ...if you do not have a bootable disk with operation system just go to pirate bay ..and download an image with the operating system you need and burn it using a program like Nero to make it bootable ...after that just run it first (boot from cd also ) and will work

Task manager in win xp keeps blinking, it will not closed, no matter what i push nothing, plus win xp keep freezing any solution how to fix this problem

VIrus infection?

to check and secure u need:

win-xp cd or other bootable win-cd, seperate up-to-date antivir software on cd or usb-stick,
your passwords

procedures:

boot system from cd/dvd (do not bother if screen resolution is different from usually),
exit windows-setup,

insert antivir-cd or stick, run full system scan.
found infections? remove/erase these files(antivir will do that for you)
if possible, back-up personal data (my folder, music, save games, etc.)
this data has to virchecked by another protected system before reinstallation !

boot from win-xp cd-rom, run setup until repair options are available,
repair your xp on harddisk(xp-will do that mostly), exit setup without installing win xp anew

boot system from hd, ignore error messages, run vircheck again.

if you're lucky, this will do, else lemmie know
