Problem for Canon Camcorders

I have plugged up the camera (cannon NTSC ELURA 65) to several outlets that are live and the camera is not even responding the the ac adapter is plugged in. I have jiggled the cord and checked for any punctures in the adapter wires. Initially when i plugged it up, it allowed me to open the cassette part long enough to put a tape in, but not enough to close the tape in the camera. Usually there is a little light that goes on and it shows that the camera is charging, but it is not on at all.
