Engine works but no power is produced

I bought the coleman 6250 and the motor works but after an hour of use the gen stopped producing power the breakers are not tripped and I don't see any loose wires.  Any ideas?

I have a COLEMAN 6250 Watt Powermate too, and it stopped producing 3 hrs into our blackout. I unbolted the four 7/16" bolts holding the end bell assembly, and looked at the circuit board (bridge rectifier assembly) and saw that 4 of the diodes had melted free from the circuit board. This is a $30 replacement part, and seems to be a common problem with these units. http://www.jackssmallengines.com/coleman_control_board.cfm
Other common and cheap to fix problems may be the brushes are worn out. Unscrew the phillips screws under the plastic tab on the end bell of the generator, and pull out the metallic rectangular posts attached to the copper wires. If they are shorter than 1/4", broken, or uneven, they may need to be replaced. They are about $3 each.
I probably drew too much power from 1 outlet on the generator, and it caused the board to fail instead of tripping the circuit breaker. (BTW, the repair shop told me it would cost $550 to replace the entire rotor/stator circuit board assembly. I have a strong feeling they didn't even look at any of the above parts, because they didn't have a clue as to what they were doing!)

I liken this to taking your car in because it won't start, and the mechanic saying you need a new engine!

Good luck!

Yes to all of the above, but also I have found that the exciter windings can burn an open circuit and will need rewound. This seems to be a fragile generator.

My Coleman power mate 6250 does not produce 110 voltage from generator to camper plus the outlets and resets buttons does not work

Your field has lost the residual magnetism. You need to flash the field. There are several ways to do this and the description is too long to write here. Best is to search google for flashing field generator. I would try the trick using a single speed drill motor first as it is a safe method. You must lock the drill on and it cannot be a type with a throttling trigger. Plug into the 110 receptacle and with breaker on give the drill a spin with your hand. This is with the generator running. More drastic steps using a battery need to be done with generator stopped.

Your generator produces proper voltage and 60 cycles at 3600 rpm. Use meter to adjust voltage/engine rpm. If after adjusting rpm setting and gen. does not have proper power, remove cover to generator and examine brushes and commutator rings for wear and voltage regulator/rectifier for burned components swolen or leaking capacitor and replace parts as necessary. Parts are available www.jackssmallengine.com Good luck

You may have just lost residual magnetism in your rotor. Start genset then apply 12 vdc to 120 v outlet for less the 1 seconds. This will be enought to restore the residual magnetism to the rotor and the unit should be producing power now.

I have a Coleman Powermate 6250. Runs Great, No power to outlets!

Excite the genset.

with the gen engine running,
1) plug a 3/8 drill into an outlet,
(make sure the drill is set to the forward rotation)
2) hold the trigger in the run position
3) by hand, rotate the drill chuck with a quick flip of your wrist.
*** NOTE: BE PREPARED !!! this will excite the gen-set and the drill will start to run as normal.
