Question about Makita Hm0810b 11-pound Demolition Chiseling Hammer

1 Answer

Hello, I have a Makita hm0810b, I had just started using it to take down some tiles when it suddenly lost power and a funny smell came out. It still turns on but when I put it against the tiles it doesn?t have the force. I already checked the chisel for proper placement and the grease and their both good. I have no idea what just happened and how to correct the problem. Thanks in advance!

that funny smell was it like a burning odor. Also if you can see into the area where the armature is do you see a LOT of sparking? Does it come up to full speed? Let me know and I will see what I can do.

How do I break up old bath room tiles

The common method is to use a small electric demolition hammer, like this

They can be easily hired if you are in a city. You can get various points for it, from spear to wide chisel.

If laying more tiles after, keep the undersurface as level as you can. Wear ear and eye protection. If your hands start to tingle while using the hammer, take a break.

There is a machine the pros use too, a power scraper

Sudden loss of power

burnt out field windings or failed armature segments would be a good assumption here. Over heating from prolonged heavy load use or worn brushes causing the bars on the armature to burn and burn the wires.. Have an appliance electrician look at it but generally a replacement unit will be required.

My hm0810b hammers softly and smells like its burning

Stop running it! Don't use tools if they smell like something is burning. Often times you'll make it worse and will make the repair more costly. It could be as simple as replacing the brushes.

To check for worn brushes, remove the black metal cover on the bottom. Then unscrew the black plastic brush caps. Worn brushes will be very low and not have mush carbon left, have a broken spring, or may be sticking in the brush holder and aren't sliding in and out well enough.

If it's something more than that, take it in for repair.

My makita impact driver has lost power. it seems to be using the hammer much more and seems to be slipping. both the hammer and the andvil don't appear worn. the bushes are fine. what could be the problem?

This is more then likely caused by the plastic gears inside the drill wearing down. Makita may replace/repair under warranty depending on when you purchased the drill.

When I start the microwave, it has a funny smell

Sounds like you burned out the magnetron, if so you should discontinue use immediately. This is the bit that emits the microwaves and they will fail with a burnt faintly oily smell to an acrid chemical smell. Magneton replacement should not be attempted by the amateur fix-it man, Find a reputable appliance repair shop or chuck it in!
