My oven (Whirlpool mod#GY396LXPB00) will not bake, I think it's a control panel problem but I'm not sure. The bake button does nothing! The custom broil and self clean cycle both function. The door locks when you activate the self clean and works properly. It started acting up the other day, my wife tried to bake something and couldn't adjust the temp., when you push the bake button it starts at 350 automatically and then you adjust from there, well it would not adjust, the up and down keys didn't funtion. So we used the oven at 350 and then it wouldn't shut off, the off button didn't function, I had to go open the breaker to shut the oven off. When I reset the breaker (allowed time to cool) I had my current problem, no bake funtion at all. Any input or advice would be appreciated! THANKS
secondary question: do both the top and bottom elements function on a self cleaning cycle? I let it run for about 5-10 min and only my top element worked.

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake igniter is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake igniter(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when oven is set to bake by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of igniter make sure only one wire, either one and not both. if amp draw less than 3.3-3.6 amps replace bake igniter. I know it seems improbable that if the igniter comes on that it could be the problem.Professional appliance technicians who would charge a average of $250.00 to repair your oven, have found when the igniter comes on yet the oven won't heat that a weak igniter is the cause 100% of the time The part number for that igniter is 98005652 it could be purchased from your local appliance parts store or online at; repairclinic.com apdepot.com searspartsdirect.com apwagner.com midwestapplianceparts.com
Sounds like you need an bake element ignitor if the bake doesn't work but if the broil also doesn't work, it could be the electronic clock/timer control. the part number for the bake ignitor is 8054129 .Best off to call a reliable service company such as Sears.
This blank display is a common control board problem. If the buttons beep when pressed, then the control board is getting adequate power. If the buttons beep.. and your oven light still turns on when the oven door is open.. this a text book control board failure. We at Fixyourboard.com can solve this problem for you, and back the remanufacture with a two year warranty.
Our Whirlpool oven just started doing the same thing!!!! The Delay Start Time (setting it for one minute ahead) and then Start works just fine. But we fried the tops of three loaves of homemade bread!!!!
Is Whirlpool just a bad brand for ovens?
when an oven won't bake, it's because the bake element is burned out.
The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the
oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an
expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may
last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.
