Question about Ace Hardware InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

Leaking and then it stoped working

My insinkerator was also leaking somewhere near the bottom. couldn't find the exact place. Then it just stopped working. No buzzing. Nothing. Turns easily. reset button does nothing. About to buy another new one. These things seem to be made to break. Right after the warranty runs out of course. I am tired of plopping down money on these things just to have them break so quickly. If anybod knows a solution let me know. Mine is to look for a different brand since this is my third insinkerator in 7 years.

You may want to buy one with a 6 or 10 year warranty. If you have a ISE Pro install it you will get another 2 years warranty on the 6 yr model. That is 8 year of in-home, 100% parts and labor warranty.

Does the recepticle that it's plugged into have power. Plug a lamp or something to check. You may have tripped a breaker at the panel.

Try taking a broom handle and stick it inside and see if you can move the blade.

The badger 5 has just stoped working

There are three possible things.
1) Circuit breaker tripped
2) Wall switch gone bad
3) Reset button tripped on disposal
Reset is located near where wire connects to disposal

I have anti-freeze leaking from somewhere near the back and bottom of the motor, not sure if it is exactly the motor or a fluid line or what...what could the problem be?

Well fortunately core/freeze plugs rarely leak anymore so the most likely cause of your leak is a heater hose at the passenger side firewall. Place a piece of clean cardboard under the area and run the engine. Watch closely the two heater hoses coming from the heater control valve and into the firewall(heater core), I'm sure you will find your leak up there. Thanks, Dana

Water is leaking from inside the engine box (drips at bottom next to electrical cable)... I assume that gasket for housing is worn ... but there seems this part is no longer available ... please, advise

Look at auto parts store (Autozone, etc.) for a liquid gasket. It will seal just as well or even better and can be applied to the exact place you need it without worrying about fit. It's cheap, too. Can't beat that. Good Luck.

In sink erator is leaking from bottom

I had this happen right before my disposal stopped working completely. Mine was leaking from the same place. The one I had was a 2 year Badger. They are easy to replace. If yours still works I would keep using it and just sit a pan down below to catch water. A new Badger 1 year cost $80 at Home Depot. If you get one, do not worry about buying extra gaskets or the black sink strainer thing because the new one will come with everything needed except for the plumbers putty. You will need plumbers putty. Good Luck

depending on the age it sounds like you may have to replace the unit,, insinkerator is the best on the market so when they leak it;s time for a new one ,, if not to old and under there warranty they will send some one to ifx it just call the 1-800 number on the unit

In sink erator leaking at bottom by electrical connection

I don't think it can be fixed by anyone other than the factory. I wanted to find a parts list so I could buy a seal that goes above the motor housing (which is where i think the problem really is) and repair it myself. I wish I had better news but since the leak is small and the motor still works, I'm going to keep a bucket beneath it and periodically empty it as recommended by a previous contributor.

Water leaks from two locations on my Badger 5, 1/2 hp disposal

These holes are probably due to wear, as they are at about the level of the cutter. In general, residential disposals are not repairable and once they begin to leak, they must be replaced. The Badger series is Insinkerator's budget line and probably has about a 5 year lifespan with normal use.
