Manual focus ring stuck

The problem came all of a sudden. No shocks or dirt - it just stuck without prior warning. Autofocus works just fine. No fault indications on camera screen.

SOURCE: Auto Focus not working for Canon EFS 18-55mm lens

I see this same problem occuring all over the internet on Canon lenses. Autofocus not working any longer. For some stupid reason the lense will lock up and quit autofocus while other lenses will work fine. A light pull on the lense focus ring away from the camera body will give a noticable pop or click which unlocks the jammed lense. Try it if you are having troubles with your autofocus. This is a very common problem and worth giving it a try.

SOURCE: when the autofocus mode is switched on the

Unless you suspect dirt in the lens, this sounds like autofocus motor failure or contact film inside the lens has been broken. This film bends while zooming a lens and I think It simply wasn't made reliable enough.

If it's still not working, you could try wiggling the lens very slightly while it's mounted just to see if the contacts aren't seating right, and cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera. Otherwise it would be investigating your guarantee.

Call at Canon Service Center and they said that may need to change the whole AUTOFOCUS MECHANISM of my lens! They said, this kinda problem IS there with the kit lenses.

Few clues, but hope helps.

Aperture ring won't turn

When the camera is set to autofocus, let the camera do the focusing. If you want to focus manually, turn off the autofocus so you can turn the focusing ring.

Autofocus problem with 70-300mm is usm

Probably needs a new ribbon cable in the lens. This flexible cable maintains the contact as the lens is zoomed in and out. If it is still under warranty take it back to B&H for a simple repair.

I am new user for DSLR, using old 50 mm 1.8 manual focus on D80, unable to see any inmage on playback (shows information). Will this lens work with D80, using settings as manual mode, f22 . Please guide...

Turn the aperture ring to its smallest setting (largest f/number). You control the aperture from the camera body, as on a lens without an aperture ring. Turn the mode dial to M (manual). The camera's exposure meter will not work with this lens. You can use another lens to get an approximate exposure, or take pictures and review them and/or use the histogram to fine-tune the exposure. The camera won't autofocus, of course, but the in-focus indicator in the viewfinder will still light up to indicate proper focus.

The manual focus ring on my camera doesn't work. The ring turns but does not seem to adjust the focus. Automated focusing still works. How to fix it?

Two methods:-

1. Use the slider switch on the left of the camera to set it to MF (manual focus). The focus ring is an electronic one rather than a physical control like the zoom ring, so the response can seem slow.

2 Go into the camera menu and enable DMF (Direct Manual Focus). This allows you to override the autofocus simply by adjusting the focus control, but it does not work if the slider switch is set to the AF C setting (continuous autofocus), it only work in the AF-S (AF only activates once when the shutter is half pressed).

Camera having error WARNING FOCUS LOCK

Hello there! Focus ring lock means that some how the focus ring is not turning freely. If it turns easilly then inside the optocoupler unit which reads out the movement of ring must be dust or damage.in the flexicable. Therefore somehow the camera should be disassembled got cleaned by pressurized air in case of dust and reassembled and hopefully it should work without problem.

Nikon d40 autofocus

Look on the left side of the lens. Make sure the button is on A for auto focus and not M for manual. OR not stuck in the middle. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Autofocus is stuck on Quantaray 28-200mm F3.8-5.6

NEVER open it up. You will destroy the dust seals. Have Canon repair it.

Won't autofocus

First try another lens on the body and see if the problem is the lens or the body,if its the body the autofocus mirror could be out of adjustment, if its the lens, it sounds like the lens took an impact and needs a pro repair. you should be able to set body to manual focus and focus lens to infinty.

DSC-F717 autofocus stops working

I was first going to also suggest a reset. Does your manual focus function correctly from near to far(turning the focus ring in manual) and does the wide to tele motion function fully and smoothly? (lens adjustability without restriction) Was your camera exposed to extreme heat or elements?(beach sand or water of any kind) It may mean electronics only or a mechanical restriction causing an electronic malfunction. A last resort may mean your closer documenting when or how frequent it happens and maybe ultimately a trip (for your camera) to Sony. Get a price quote for repair since you might strike a happy medium of using the camera differently (manually focussing) without exceeding the value of the camera for repair costs.
