Question about Dell UltraSharp 1704FPT 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
I have the same problem and have been told this is a failed backlight inverter if you can use a flashlight and still see images on the screen. I can find one online for model 1703 but not the 1704. Still looking for a source for it. Replacing the inverter requires almost total disassembly of the monitor so be sure you want to spend that much on it. Good luck.

There is a good chnace your Backlight bulbs need to be replaced.
