Question about Yamaha YST-MS201 Computer Speakers

1 Answer

I, too got a secondhand pair of these speakers

With no power cord. I found out only one store in town carries power cords at all, and of course nobody has the one I need. I got a very expensive one ($30!) with an adaptor that fit, but it didn't work, so I don't know if the problem is with the power cord or the speakers yet.

Well, I took the darned adaptor back to the store a couple hours after I bought it. Now I have something that works, get this: I went to a secondhand electronics / misc. store we have downtown, brought my treasured woofer speaker with me for good measure again, and the fella there, who has always seemed to know the answer or have 'the gizmo' I needed, had the right plug for this (and I forget what he called it now but he said they're hard to find!) which was just a cut piece of cord with the plug on it, as he'd salvaged it for a rainy day himself -- and he SPLICED it for me to a nice big 15-volt adaptor. He put some solder on it and slid some black tubing over it which he heated with a lighter -- the fire marshall would be proud to pass inspection on his work!

And now my glorious $4 secondhand speakers with the mishmash adaptor work! I asked him what he was going to charge me and he said well he usually sells adaptors for $10 so I gave him $20 (cheap of me, actually!) and said $10 was for labor ; )

A town where nobody sells what you want but somebody can still get you what you want -- sweet!

I mentioned somewhere in here already that I found a person who had the plug I needed, and actually had to splice it onto a 15-watt adaptor. The speakers work fine.

What cord do I need to hook subwoofer up

You need the power cord that should already be attached, plus a single RCA patch cord to connect to your source. You could use just one of a typical RCA pair, if that's all you have.

We found a pair of Boston (computer?) speakers in the trash, but the cords attached to them are confusing...on the main speaker the 2 cords have 1 end that fits into my headphone port on my laptop (like...

I have a similar set of speakers at home from the same company. For the pair i have, they are attached to an amplifier which provides the power to these speakers. without the amplifier, these speakers will not work. Now you can take the speakers to radioshack or a similar company and see if there is an specific type of amplifier that you can buy to work with these speakers, but im not sure if the speakers work at all!
hope this helps! Thumbs up if it did :)

I have lost the power cord and need to replace it .What cord do I buy and where?

The power cord should look very similar to the one in the back of your computer. BestBuy, Radio Shack or any electronics store should carry it. Verify with your computer power cord first before buying.

GFCI cord not long enough

Standard extention cords are made for light draw applications like lamps and T.V.s. They are not heavy enough for the power that your A/C will draw. You can get an appliance extention cord that is made to handle heavier load such as you A/C. Most hareware stores carry them.

Need a replacement power cord for harmon kardon sound sticks II

its not that expensive for a power cord. they are running on 12v so you go and buy a 12v power supply with a jack that fits the speakers or you can just find a power supply at home if you have one that is 12v

System turns on however hard drive will not cycle nor will mouse or key board activate

Turn power off and unplug power from computer.
Unplug printers,backup drives and speakers.
Open case and unplug power supply from the board.
plug power cord back in press the power button.
Of course nothing will happen.
unplug power cord again.
plug power supply back into the board.
plug power cord backup and press power switch.
If nothing happens unplug power cord again.
pull out your memory sticks and plug cord back in and press power button.
Of course not much will happen.
But really something is happening to your computer so continue.
Pull power cord and replace memory sticks.
replace power cord and press power switch.
Continue this pulling out pci cards one at a time until you find out what the problem might be.
Try different keyboards and mice too.
Good Luck
