Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 PC Notebook

Dell Inspiron 1501 will not boot with battery or adapter

Have Dell Inspiron 1501 will not boot with battery or adapter. The adapter light goes out the moment it is attached to laptop but lights again when unplugged from wall and laptop then replugged into wall remaining on until attached to laptop again. Have tried 2 known good adapters. Both do the same. Gave notification of improper battery for several weeks before this, although it had Dell battery it came with when new.

Already had tried with battery removed, no go. It just makes light on charger go out as soon as I attach it.

Take the battery out and try with AC only, if no change, then you will likely need a motherboard replacement

I believe there is a battery problem which you will resolve when you replace the battery. Have your charger checked or replace it as well.

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

My Dell Inspiron laptop won't power up. There are no lights AT ALL. It worked when I left for holiday. I have bought a new AC/DC power unit: just the same. The green light comes on when I plug the AC/DC...

If the light on the A/C adapter "goes out" when you connect it to the Laptop... then your motherboard is bad.

Your motherboard is "shorting out" the A/C adapter, in which case you will need a new motherboard.

Sorry....

Dell inspiron 1501 work fine turn off last night now wont turn on

You mentioned trying a different battery, try a different AC adapter.

When plugging in the ac adapter to the wall, see if the POWER LED comes on on the adapter, then when you connect it to the computer, see if the LED stays on.

If the issue occurs with both AC adapters (No battery installed) then the motherboard has failed. If one ac adapter works but the other doesn't then the adapter is bad

Replacement battery for Dell Inspiron 1501 won't charge

If your old battery was doing the same (not charging), then is is because the charger is not charging the battery. Do you have a friend with a Dell laptop? Maybe you can use a borrowed charger to test and see if it will charge the batteries. To answer your question , no Dell does not have anything built in to prevent you from using a 3rd party battery.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
