reboot and go into safe mode
    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsaf...

Then un install ie 8 and reboot and try again and see if that helps - what ever it was you did last was most likely what caused the issue

Why did the icons desappeared?

There are reasons why the icons of your computer disappeared.

1. It could have been hidden if the "Show Desktop Icons" has been disabled.

You can check the settings when you right click on your desktop, and select arrange icons by.

2. Or the virus could have modified your registry settings so the icons disappeared.

How do I get IE 8 icon on my desktop

Go to the installation directory. It is probably C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer.
Look for a file there called iexplore.exe.
Right click on that file. Then use the "Create ShortCut" menu pick! That creates the shortcut. Last step: just drag the shortcut to your desktop. Done!

No desktop icons

this looks like a computer virus to me, i'll tell you what to do. first of all, internet explorer is not safe, use firefox instead which you can download for free here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
try scanning your computer with an up to date antivirus, if you don't have one, try "AVG FREE" which you can also download for free at: www.download.com.
i guess this should take care of your problem. good luck.
