Nintendo DS bottom display screen

The bottom display screen only shows a series of black lines.  The top screen appears fine, but the bottom screen will not display anything but these lines (it looks like a thick bar code)

Re: nintendo DS bottom display screen

Im having a simlar problem. i figured before i buy a new screen, ill swap the top and bottoms ones, just to see. with the old top screen on the bottom, i still get the "bar code" effect. ive checked all the ribbon cables, and dont see any tears. the ribbon from the top to bottom was just replaced, and its in good condition. any fix for this at all??

Re: nintendo DS bottom display screen

Hi I have a problem with my bottom screen as well. I was replacing the case as the hinge was broken. When i was putting it back together i noticed a slight tear in the ribbon cable which is attached to the board and the bottom screen.
When I turned it on I found I had poor colour and contrast in the bottom screen however the top screen was fine.
Where this ribbon cable is attached to the board there is two small cables attached to the board beneath it, maybe one of these has come away and needs repositioning or your bottom screen needs replacing.Try this site for diy tips

Black lines on Nintendo DS lite's bottom screen.

This may mean the bottom screen has cracked, if this happens all the time, its probably damaged.

Potentially dead Nintendo DS lite LCD screen. (bottom)

Hey, I can help you.

Yes, the Bottom LCD is dead. You will have to exchange it.

Below I have two links you should follow through. One to purchase a bottom LCD for a very cheap price and the other will show you how to replace the bottom LCD.

REMEMBER.. To place a plastic pad under the bottom lcd so it doesn't ground out the board. Forgetting to do this could potentially blow a fuse and you will have to replace those!!

Top Screen on DS only shows lines

I take it the item is a ds Phat??

Problem is the same if its a Lite just a different part.

DS Phat - you need the screen cable that runs between the bottom board and the top connsctor board.

DS Lite, the screen and cable are all in one, so you need a new top screen

Single verticle black line on top screen of ds lite:(

Sounds like you have something wrong with the LCD screen, and there isn't much you can do about it except buy another top/bottom piece from NINTENDO.

DS Lite's top screen has horizontal black lines

i found a REALLY easy solution! the most likley problem is that there is dust in the GBA/DS game card slot! it corrupts the connectors (i dont want 2 explain how it gets into the system) so step one: wrap a small peice of tissue around the stylus(make sure DS is turned ON)
step two: LIGHTLY go inside the GBA/DS slot with the tissue wrapped stylus.
step three: shut down DS system and turn on again
problem solved! hope this helps.

Lines on the non-touch screen

The connection to the lower screen is probably a bit broken. If you feel up to it you could take your DS apart using a tri winged screwdriver (can be bought from and check the connections or you could just send it in for repair.

Nintendo touch screen

Have you dropped the DS? It could be that the ribbon cable on the bottom LCD has come adrift.
Does the top screen display the Nintendo logo when switched on?
