The lap-top keeps switching off and on during use

check all leads from motherboard to hard drive including electrical and all of your cd/dvd drives make sure the connections are good and not faulty and there is no dust built up on them
make sure your computers ram modules are securely seated with no dust in the sockets also the Cmos battery has charge and seated with no dust in the sockets
could be a memory dump you might be running to many programs at the one time placing to much strain on the CPU you might not have enough RAM random access memory
if you dont want to add more ram try uninstalling some unecessary programs if you scroll to bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click select task manager applications also processes if you see something running that should not be or does not need to be running select end now you might uninstall that program if you dont need it also you might have a virus shuting it down
any of these can cause a computer to shutdown on you
hope this helps you

Hi I have a windows xp pro and my mother board is a ASUS A8V-X and it gave me a error message saying that I needed original cd that came with it i am assumeing that it would be the mother board i cant...

You can find manuals and drivers at the Asus site >> But in the position you are now and your computer wont start try do this
Start it at safe mode pressing and holding the F8 key while booting. Use your original Windows XP pro CD to repair/restore your windows installation
Just follow the onscreen instructions.
If that wont work you may need a technician to remove your had disk, take copies of any usefull data you may have on it, reformat your hard disk and make a new windows installation.
Try to upgrade to windows Vista.

My Motherboard is doesnt displays. i have checked cpu, ram , power supply they all work properly. if i turn on the motherboard it doest give any beep sound and also doesnt give display. if remove the ram...

Maybe a silly question but have you downloaded the latest video codecs for your processor?
Are you plugging in all necessary power connections on the motherboard? Does the video card have power connector on it and do you have the necessary power cord plugged into it?
Double, triple, quadruple check that your RAM, video card and your CPU are fully seated. If you still can't get things to go from there, you pretty well need access to another machine for which you can test your parts individually as something is most likely a dud.
good luck

My ethernet ports are down and i dont have the softwear to reinstal them what can i do? plz help

Look in your manual that came with the motherboard or if you don't have the manual get onto the internet download it. Find what the manufacturer and part # of the LAN chip is and go on their site and download the driver to a memory stick. You may sometimes need more than one driver too so be thorough. Once you have what you need load it onto your maching. Good luck.

You should have told me you are missing a manual. If you dont follow thing from it correctly, you can really burn your motherboard. from the usb connectors on the motherboard
you see pins like this 1 is set 1 and 2 is set 2. you see those are wrapped in sets from you cable near the end. dont mix them
