Question about Dell Dimension™ 4600C PC Desktop

1 Answer

No Video. The system seems to power up (without pushing on/off button) as soon as I plug in the power supply. but nothing comes up on the display. I tried a different power supply (just because I had one laying around) but it still does the same thing.

Why isn my memorex mks8506 turning on?

Try unplugging from power then hold power button for about 30 seconds or more, plug back in and try it. Have several computers on my work network that do the same thing and that's how we get them to start up again.

Lights come on but no fans or powerup

Hello,

Please follow the steps below.

1. Please removed the battery and unplugged the power supply.
2. Held down the power button for 45 seconds.
3. After 45 seconds reinstalled the battery and the power supply and pushed the power button and if it works then you don't need to replace your motherboard.
4. Else try it couple of times or up to five times before it worked if worst comes to worst.

Thanks

InFocus LP650 will not come on

First try a firmware upgrade. If that doesn't help, it seems it might be a power supply issue since you said the led comes on very light. I repair these power supplies. My ebay id is gtitubro

Hi... When I push the power button on my HP Desktop, just the amber light in the button comes on....nothing else. No noises (hard drive spinning-up, fan, etc)...nothing.

The amber light is signifying an error. Most common are the power supply, video card, or RAM. Worst case is motherboard has went bad. Try reseating the RAM without installing the video card, if it boots then it's the video card. Replace the bad part & you should be up & running again. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Dell e510 won't make it to post

Unplug computer, disconnect all usb/monitor/internet, open it, hold power button until green led on the inside on the motherboard turns off, pop out the BIOS battery (looks like a big watch battery and use a small flathead screwdriver to depress the spring lock on one side), plug in computer, hold power button for about 20 seconds (must reset BIOS), let up on power button, wait 10 seconds and push power button. The computer should turn on. Wait for it until activity seems stable (1 min. or so). Push powerbutton to shut off.

If this has worked you have proven that it's not the power supply (it turned on). If you purchased a non dell power supply, you might try this with the original one installed.

Go buy a new battery (CR2032 3 volt). Unplug computer, open it, hold power button until green led on the inside on the motherboard turns off, pop in new battery, plug in (you should notice the power button blinking amber again), hold power button until it stops blinking (about 20 sec....again must reset BIOS), wait 10 sec., push power button. the computer should turn on. Wait for it until activity seems stabe (1 min. or so). Push powerbutton to shut off.

Now, close case, plug in all usb/monitor/internet/etc. Power up computer. You'll get an internal floppy drive error. Push F2 (maybe F1) to get into the BIOS settings and go to "drives" and turn off the internal floppy. Save and exit. The computer should boot properly now.

This seems to be a big problem with the e510, my theory is that this one small battery is the root of most of these failures (as these computers usually fail after 1-2 years), not the power supply or the motherboard (heck, when you replace the motherboard it comes with a new one of these batteries...a several hundred dollar piece of hardware, with a $5 battery that will actually fix it).

Try pressing the power button and press [del] button. See if it goes to the bios setup page. If it does, have your harddisk checked. It could be corrupt OS or problem with your harddisk.

Either the new power supply you purchased is not functioning correctly. But, assuming it is now that you are getting some form of power to your PC, it is very likely the motherboard. Whatever fried your old power supply (or it could have just been the power supply itself) most likely fried your motherboard in the process. Probably not the CPU since the MB can't even post.
