I am getting "Ink empty" on all of my cartridges.... there is ink in all of them! I have done everything suggested in the instruction book, on the Brither website and on this website. What was that note about a faulty ink sensor? Is that a technician fix?

    PROBLEMS WITH INK DETECTION

There are many people who have trouble after changing one or more ink cartridge(s). Here are some hints how to fix them:

    • No cartridge

    • Empty cartridge

    1. Take the cart out and reinsert it. Make sure that the cart is well placed and secured.

When useing generic ink carts (3. party maufractures) the seating sometimes will be difficult because of the different construction of the cart vs. the original ones.

    2. The machine had warned about a NEARLY EMPTY cart. User has changed the cart at that moment and shortly after get a NO CARTRIDGE or EMPTY CART. warning.

In most cases the user has ignored the demanded reset of the machine which is displayed on the LCD. Machine actually asks for the changing and needs an answer YES or NO. This will reset the ink counter to zero so that the cart is recognized as full.

BTW: The Nearly Empty warning is just a reminder! You'll waist ink when changing at that moment, because there is more than a quart of ink left inside. Always print until machine stopps by it self and gives the EMPTY message. After replacing machine will continue to print on (and the pc-error will disappear, too)!!

    3. Sometimes there is/are some other cart(s) which are empty, too and wont be displayed on the LCD. Make sure that all carts have a rest of ink inside by taking them out and have a good look at the cart fuelage.

    4. If the error wont disappear unplug machine from power outlet. Take all carts out of the holder, get machine back to power and wait until machine demands carts. Reinsert carts and give the right answer if you are asked by machine. Set date and time!!! Otherwise the machine will always do a large cleaning when powering on (and waist a lot of ink!).

    5. If this wont work there might be a defectiv ink sensor or the small circuit board of the ink detecting sensor -which is part of the holder- is out of position. The latter one happens when the carts are forced into position (mainly due to generic carts!).

I had a similar problem, kept saying Magenta & yellow empty when not.

took all cartridges out, unplugged & restarted, the printer then asked for each cartridge to be installed, did this in turn, after this it asked me if I had changed each cartridge, answered Y to all.

It did a bit of a clean then was OK

I have had this problem once again after inserting a new black cartridge and once again I turned my computer and printer, which are plugged into the same box, off at the wall and it worked. Maybe turning the puter off too makes a difference who knows? I don't as I'm the original puter bimbo.

I have same problem. It started off as empty ink and low ink so I replaced first the black, did a test print then even though the other one yellow was still unchanged low the test print came out as black fine, cyan fine but yellow and magenta blank. Because it was blank and reading low I changed the yellow anyway but its still blank. After lots of tests and cleans magenta and yellow still remained blank. Now the cyan is near empty and the magenta even though nothing has been printed. I took them out many times to see if it will get it working tried all the above suggestions and anyway its now started saying no cartridge. I'm not using orig brother ink and don't expect it to be as good but not to print some colours at all is a bit odd. Cant get round this no cartridge thing though, machine has hardly been used so I'm disappointed if its had it.

Ive got the solution...........Bin it and buy another printer..NOT a BROTHER! It worked for me!! Even thought it warned of low ink it wouldnt print at all. I stripped down the machine as best I could and cleaned out the ink tubes with a cleaner specifically for the job. Put it back together and it still didnt work. I should have saved my money and not bought the solvent.

So........just buy another printer, after all there a lot cheaper now!!

Have replaced ink cartridges, and it still sayin

You have to go through a hardware cleaning cycle before it will recognise the new cartridge as full.

See on-line or on pc manual on how to do this.

Red ink not printing!!!

To clean a print cartridge you should a glaas of water and 15-25 ml of alcohol and mix it in a small wide pan. Dip the head (usually head is mounted to the cartridge itself) in the solution and move horizontally (while the head portion only submerged) keep it there for 5-10 minutes. This should clean your print head. After the head is dry you can mout it to the printer and print. Caution: Do not touch the electronic contacts on spilt water or alcohol in it. This will damage the printer.

Brother Printer Cannot Print in Black

This could be because of several probs: 1. The ink cart is not original and wont let the ink flow, because the valve is not open. 2. There might be air bubbles within the capillaries. 3. The ink is not genuine ink and has pigments in it. Solution: see here, too: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/faq/faq_top.htm?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=dcp110c_us Insert another ink cart. Use, if possible, the genuine ink cart from brother. Do the cleaning cycle twice. This will extract the air bubbles out of the caps after the second time. If you dont have any success the printhead is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore!
